Post your MisterHouse setups

In order to see what people are doing with MisterHouse, I thought it would be good to have a thread talking about our setups. To get the ball rolling, I'll start off.
System:
Mini tower with a Pentium 266. Oodles of memory and hard drive space. Has an ATI AIW 8500DV video card. Running Win 2k.

Uses:
From the MH perspective, it does the following:
  • X-10 light control. In addition to being able to turn lights on and off from a laptop, I've enabled "modes" which drives a somewhat random schedule of light activity when I set it to an away mode.
  • HAI Omnistat interface. This interface gives me web control of the basic functions of temp, heat/AC, fan, etc.
Some future plans include:
  • Expanding the HAI function to allow programming the setback schedules.
  • Interfacing to my Caddx security panel
  • Secure access from outside home to check security status, temps, etc
  • Monitor outside weather conditions, temp, wind, etc
  • Control outside lighting
  • Home theater/audio interface/control
  • Migrate to a different server, with Linux

Great idea piper_chuck, the more talk of HA alternatives, the better!

Here's mine:

System:
HP Desktop screwed to the wall in the basement (actually makes a decent mount) Running Ubuntu Edgy Server (6.10)
  • 833 MHz PIII
  • 265 MB RAM
  • 10 GB HD
  • 3 parallel ports (for digital I/O)
  • 6 serial ports (need more)
  • 2 game ports (for analog inputs)
Uses:
  • X-10 lighting control
  • 1-wire temp/HVAC
  • distributed audio
  • camera viewing (web interface on MH and ZoneMinder on seperate box)
  • power/water/waterheater/HVAC monitoring
  • local weather monitoring (rain, wind, temp, humidity)
  • Greenhouse lighting and ventilation
I'm working on using Xlobby as an interface with xAP as the communication protocol between MH and XL. Other future enhancements include adding touchscreens, UPB lighting and HVAC and a different, frameless "Ajaxified" web interface. Outside sprinkler control and complete control of the greenhouse are also on the list. I'd also like to play with zoned audio using USB audio adapters at some point. There are tons I want to do with it. I was side tracked for a while thinking that I wanted to move to a commercial product, but I'm back on MH fulltime now.

well, I don't know the specs of my computer offhand, but it's pretty crappy. Anyways, I'm running CentOS Linux (i.e., Red Hat for free) and controlling lights via UPB. I don't currently really use the web interface much, so I think the only thing MH does for me on a regular basis is turns out my wife's reading lamp at 1 AM every night.

I also have a Palm NX70V with wifi card that I can use to access MH, but I haven't yet got a customized screen for it (so that things actually fit on the screen!).

In theory, I also have it working with Jabber, but I haven't really tried it out yet.

I plan at some point to add a W800 to the mix and add X10 RF motion detectors and door/window contacts. Then it could either email, SMS, or IM me if there is unexpected detection.

Also, in next year's budget will be some 3com Audreys to put in various places around the house so they can talk to me.

Big plans, I know, but I just started with MH last month :)

Any new MisterHouse follow-up to your current posts? I know that it's been only a couple months, but I follow this with some interest.

I've a couple 3COM Audrey's myself and have looked at the MrAudrey image that is available for them that works in combination with MisterHouse. Personally I'm looking at modifying the image some and seeing if I can't develop a driver to interface with Motorola Premise 2.1 (the software I'm currently using for HA).

Here's a link to the MrAudrey page and FAQ: http://vsa.cape.com/~pjf/nuke/html/index.php

Thanks all!

Did you ever build the driver? Are you still using Premise? Misterhouse?

nope, i gave up on MH shortly after that and moved to HomeSeer...

Thats interesting as I have been so tempted to give up on PLuto/LinuxMCE, but i keep chugging through it. In fact i usually give up on ost linux distributions i've tried to move mainstream into my home/office for the last 10 years. For all my disdain for windows, man it (and in many cases its applications) is (are) one heck of a lot easier to get up and running ( though i have exceptions - Logitech's bluetooth keyboard and mouse for example!)... quick dvd installs is a nice idea, but lack of support for my raid, etc means i'm gonna have to creat SAMBA shares for all the storage (or get new hardware for the linux boxes or move to out-of-the box NAS)

arg... i press on...
