Problem with Zones

Hi,

I have just connected my first four zones to a new M1G. They are the first four zones on the first zone expander(17,18,19,&20). I have the zones programmed for N/C no resistor. All zones test secure, But the panel shows violated at the keypad as well as in RP and RM. Does anybody have and advice for me.

Thanks in advance

Please elaborate on "test secure". Is the expander enrolled properly? I assume you are using type = 1, what definition are you using? Are your first 16 zones working OK? What about 21-32?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. By test secure, I have tested the inputs with a meter and they show closed. I believe it is enrolled correct. The first 16 zones seem to work fine( I have them jumped out with resistors and they show open when resistors are removed,I am saving the first 16 for temp sensors, ect). I do not have a second board installed yet(21-32) so I can't test them. What do you mean by "definition"?

Thanks for the help

Zone expanders add 16 zones, so your first zone expander should add zones 17-32. Of course you can address it to be any bank you want, but I assume you have it logically next in line to the base 16 zones. In your first post you said you added a zone expander, but in your second post you seemed confused by my question about zone 21 to zone 32. In ElkRP, do you see zones 17-32?

The "definition" of a zone is a setting in ElkRP that tells the M1 how to handle that zone. For example definition 3 = Burglar Perimeter Instant or 10 = Fire Alarm.

Feel free to stop by the CT chat room, there are usually multiple Elk owners there (including myself, but some are probably AFK) that would be glad to help you get this sorted out quickly.

You siad you programed the zones for NC no resistor... how did you di this? with elkRP? did you send these changed to the control? I forgot to do this once....

Wayne,

Thanks, Yes I see the expander and the zones in RP. The one thing I did not mention is that on the keypad after the zone #, There is a ?. Ie Zone017?. I am sure this has somthing to do with this. And am I correct, That N/C means N/C with no EOLR.

Thanks

While that is not necessarily wrong to have EOL's on the panel, it is not necessary. Simply remove all the resitors and set the zone to disabled until needed.

You can verify the sensors are right by hooking an Ohmmeter to the leads in the panel. With the sensor close you should have a short (closed). When the sensor opens, you should now have an open circuit. If you know your zones are good, then it has to be a configuration error.

The ? after the zone number means the zone expander has not checked in or is not enrolled.

Do this: ELK key, 9, installer code, > key. The M1 will enroll all devices that it sees on the RS-485 network.

The LED on the zone expander should be blinking once per second.

If not, check the Data A and Data B data bus lines going into the zone expander. Make sure it is set for address 2, if you are using zones 17-32.

If you set the hardware zone configuration for Normally Open, you do not have to put anything on the zone inputs. Short the zone to violate it.

Keep us informed.

Have you checked your data bus termination resistors?

If not, see the notes on the bottom of page 7 of the installation manual for the proper jumpers for your particular confinguration.

Mike P,
Does the M1 see the input expander when you enroll modules?

You can see this on the keypad after enrollment. Goto the Edit screen and use the ^ key to see all enrolled devices or use ELKRP under Send/Rec, Show Keypads and Expanders.

what are the rest of the zones programmed for? are they secured? are they set to disabled?
