Back at the first of this year (2007) the Chinese government quit subsidizing the sealed lead acid battery production since China had captured most of the worlds production. Now that lead has taken a tremendous jump in price, the cost of sealed lead acid batteries is about to more than double.

Beware: Since the amount of lead in a battery is a determining factor in the current output and amp hour rating of a battery, some Chinese battery manufacturers are reducing the amount of lead in the battery to maintain price levels and not informing their customers of the change.
