SmartLabs' INSTEON home control networking technology uses a simple, low-cost combination of wireless and power line communications to link core home systems such as lighting, security, comfort control, consumer electronics, appliances and safety sensors for remote monitoring and control. By linking all devices through the HouseLinc software, integrators as well as consumers will be able to manage every automated device in the home.

"HouseLinc software allows you to create scenes, manage all links and create time and event triggers from the convenience of your PC," said Joe Dada, CEO and founder of SmartLabs, Inc. "This is also the first product to translate X10 to INSTEON, allowing integrators such as home automation installers and electricians to take full advantage of the INSTEON network."

Editors from Electronic House Publishing's four magazines -- all focused on cutting-edge home technology -- chose the HouseLinc Desktop Software as one of their favorite products based on product reviews and demos, and comments from installers and users of the various products. The criteria for winning the award included technological innovation, combined with overall value and outstanding features.

SmartLabs plans to release HouseLinc Desktop Software in early Q3. The software is $69.99 and can be ordered at Smarthome.com. For more information about SmartLabs and the INSTEON home control technology, please visit www.smartlabsinc.com. SmartLabs is headquartered in Irvine, Calif.

This time I get to bash the messenger first! :D How the heck can something that just entered beta a couple weeks ago and is not available for purchase yet be considered a "Product of the Year"? Rubbish.

This is as bad as when they gave HAL the product of the year award and it NEVER shipped that year, it was all vaporware. EH has no credibility in this area.

I just got a Beta Copy and it is not a finished product yet. I too wonder how such an award can be given to a Beta Version.

How do the independent software vendors feel about supporting Insteon and also competing with Insteon's software.

Well in other cases, a small stack of greenbacks with the entry does wonders.

This is dissappointing, I agree with the comment on EH's credibility given this.

I haven't seen the software, and perhaps it really is great, but if it is not even out (which is what the smarthome website says as well) then this is a foolish rush for a press release.

I would be curious if EH responds to the questions posed. I can't see how this can be looked at another way, but I wonder if they will state an opinion on this.

Then again companies with vaporware win CES awards every year.

In any case I hope they know something wonderful that we don't yet.

I don't believe that we are competing. Thats apples and oranges. If it brings more folks to automation, then the "real" software providers will also excel. I hope they sell millions.

Too bad they don't do automobiles. I would like to know which car won the 2007 Car of the Year award so I could pre-order it.

edit changed:
'buy' to 'pre-order'
