TiVo institutes 1 year service contracts

It looks like TiVo is forcing every new customer to get the 1 year service contract after September 6, and is also going to charge people $150 for an early cancellation, either by the customer or TiVo (appearantly they can cancel your contract without too much trouble).

I can not believe there's not a way to use a TiVo without paying for the service. You would think someone whould have come up with a better way.

Sure, it was called ReplayTV! The machines cost $400-500 and ReplayTV went belly-up.
