Today only: Free CrossOver software

If you run Linux or OS X, you are going to want to get this software:

http://down.codeweavers.com/

It's basically an enhanced version of Wine, allowing you to run Windows applications on Linux/Mac. You can download the full version for free, today only (See the Lame Duck page for more info on why).

While it obviously won't support every Windows app, it does a good job supporting the big names (I just installed Office XP, and Exchange support works great). I also installed ElkRP successfully (would error out under just Wine), but can't try it until I get home since I don't have access to my Elk panel right now.

Dan,

It is a .sh file, is this some new compression? I know I know, I'm just being lazy and not looking myself...

Or do you install Linux, then you "execute" this, as you would a windows .cab install file?

Thanks!

.sh extension is usually used with shell scripts. In this case, it is a small shell script, which also contains the binary data. I guess you can think of this as a self extracting zip file + installer. And you do need to install Linux first, or there is no point in running this.

Does it matter than I downloaded this in windows? I can still then copy it over to linux (should I ever actually install that) and run it and all the Endians will be ok, right?

Shouldn't matter, I personally downloaded my copies using Windows XP, and moved it to the Linux box using the DropBox service, and everything installed just fine.

Just a reminder, don't forget to register your serial numbers by Nov 30, they just started sending out e-mail reminders. If you don't register, you won't be able to use them.

are the serial numbers what you're supposed to get in the email? Because I haven't gotten the email yet. It said it might be delayed.

The serial numbers are being sent out now, I assume it will take a while before they all have been sent out, due to the massive amount of requests. Did you enter your e-mail address when this offer was valid, or only download the file?

Ya know, if this minor technicality makes me miss out on this free software that I had never heard of before this and have no real intention of ever using...them I am going to be VERY ambivalent about it!
