TR-40 & M1XSP Intermittent Communication

I seem to have only partial communication with my TR-40 from the M1G panel. Hoping someone can spot my error, or help me in the right direction.

Here's my setup:

1) I have my TR-40 thermostat wired into the M1XSP with the 485 jumper set (
J3), 000 for baud and 1001 for mode.

2) The M1XSP enrolled just fine so termination is okay.

3) I created the following ElkRP rules and sent them to the panel:

WHENEVER Home (Area 1) IS ARMED AWAY
THEN ACTIVATE Economy Mode (Task 1)
WHENEVER Home (Area 1) ARM STATE BECOMES DISARMED
THEN ACTIVATE Comfort Mode (Task 2)
WHENEVER Economy Mode (Task 1) IS ACTIVATED
THEN SET Main HVAC (Tstat 1) COOLING DESIRED TEMP to 63 DEG. F. (17 DEG. C.)
WHENEVER Comfort Mode (Task 2) IS ACTIVATED
THEN SET Main HVAC (Tstat 1) COOLING DESIRED TEMP to 66 DEG. F. (19 DEG. C.)

* Note these descriptions are different than the Elk directions but I cannot make a rule appear exactly as the documentation suggests (ie: Rule 2: Whenever Alarm System State Becomes Disarmed).

** Also, I don't have any cooling, just a gas furnance. Should the rules reference 'COOLING' or heating?

4) I have configured the M1G panel to use degree C in the globals

5) I have configured the TR-40 to use degree C

So now when I view the thermostat temperature from the Elk keypad, it reports the correct temperature but when I try to activate either economy or comfort modes, it does not update the TR-40 WDU. There is the occasional time that something on the WDU will change (ie: maybe run-> hold, or auto mode -> heat mode) but nothing consistent or predictable.

Any advice?

How should the WDU respond/change based on my rules?

Thanks all!
