Z-Wave controller question

Here's the situation: For a vacation home, there's a small z-wave network: One Intermatic HA09 controller and 4 HA06 dimmers.

Is the network configuration in the controller stored in flash or does it go away when the batteries die? As you can imagine, being a vacation home, there are long periods of non-use where the batteries can die and not be replaced for a while.

If there's no flash, then what does one do to recover the controller in this situation?

Thanks

Also, as a disaster recovery method.

With a new master controller you can do a 'exclude from network' or 'reset device' (the terminology is different on different controllers) and your switches will be reset to factory conditions. Then just re enroll them in your new network.
