Android app that works with ISY/IPcameras/IPdevices

I don't like the idea of being tied to a cloud service (i.e. iRule) or a monthly service (i.e. mobilink)
I am looking for an Android app that can work directly with a lighting controller (ISY for instance) , IP devices (i.e. iTach) and my IP cameras. I've searched around Google Play but there are a LOT of apps, and it's hard to determine their capabilities. I also went through the list of Android apps on cocoontech but it a tough slog. I would appreciate some recommendations.

Thanks!

I don't think you're going to find one app that does it all.  Authomation HD and Homebuddy are great apps, but they require a vera controller to tie it all together.  At $189 for the Vera Lite, it's not a bad investment.  I had one at my old house, and I just bought another for my new place.  The Vera does have plugins for both the ISY and iTach I think, and it has camera support (but it's pretty limited.  Personally, I use Vera/Autohomation HD for everything but cameras, and then I do my cams through IP Cam Viewer Pro which supports almost all cameras on the market.

I know a couple of people on this forum have Veras.  It's surprising to me that it's not more popular here because it's *extremely* flexible.

IP Cam Viewer Pro is highly recommended for IP cameras.  I'd be hard-pressed to name a camera it doesn't support.

You can configure Mobilinc for direct access to the ISY without requiring cloud access or a monthly fee. MLHD can also access IP cameras, and the Elk if you have one.

You can also configure the ISY via the network module to send the IR code strings to an IRTach. Which you can then program the ISY to send the codes for your fav channels or send IR code to any IR device. I've done it.

Thanks for all the input  :)
I had planned on the network module for the ISY.
elvisimprsntr: Mobilinc requires a monthly fee for cloud access, although the app is only $20. Are you saying I can have internet access without the cloud feature?
Correct me if I am wrong, but iRule is a one-time fee that includes the cloud access.
Regarding Mobilinc, should I be concerned that the bulk of their development is for the iOS?
signal15: I had settled on a wired platform, I believe the Vera Lite is zwave only?

The ML Connect "cloud" access service allows one to access their ISY remotely using their mobile device without any complex configuration or setup.   It's plug and play.   If you do not need to remotely control your HA, you can configure ML to access the ISY directly without going thru the "cloud."   I have been using ML for more than 5+ years on iOS and can state for a fact the application is stable, robust, and their team is always open to suggestions and quickly responds to feedback.   If their iOS apps are any indication of the quality of their applications for Android,  I don't think you have anything to worry about.   I suggest you consider stepping up to ML HD version of the app which runs on both the phone and table form factors, which includes an excellent interface taking full advantage of the additional tablet real-estate.   It's a little bit more, but when you consider the cost of traditional touch screen interfaces from Creston, C4, AMX, etc. start in the $1000's, MLHD is a bargain.

I bought and tried iRule, but manually designing, and configuring a complete custom interface takes a lot more time than I am willing to commit.  A simple, clean interface, which automatically configures itself in seconds vs. spending weeks building a custom layout seems like a lot more work.    I prefer to spend my spare time enjoying the outdoors, beaches, sunshine, and time with fam/friends.      It's all about how you want to spend your free time.

To each their own....

Hi Bartmandude,

This is Wes, maker of MobiLinc, and I happened to see your post here and wanted to chime in to clarify.

Elvisimprsntr is right, MobiLinc has multiple options to address the varying needs of our customers. If you are comfortable with port forwarding, fixed IPs, router settings (which is sounds like you are) then you can absolutely configure the MobiLinc app to talk directly to your ISY with the ISY's IP address. You'd want to consider the MobiLinc Cloud service under the following two scenarios:
- You didn't want to worry about port forwarding or wanted to "bury" your ISY in your network and not expose it to the outside world.
- You have iOS devices (Android support is on our roadmap) and you were interested in real-time push notifications for any device, program, variable, or security state you wanted to monitor. IE: INSTEON Water Leak sensor.

If you have an iPad or are planning on purchasing an iPad, the MobiLinc HD would be the recommended app (it's a Universal app that runs on all iOS devices). If you are Android only, then MobiLinc Pro is the app you'd be interested in.

Hopefully this info helps. If you have any other questions about MobiLinc feel free to email me and my team at [email protected] and we'll be happy to answer and help.

Thanks Wes & elvis
Too bad about the tablet support, any time frame for the HD version for Android?
If it's coming in a matter of months I can plan for that.

This thread is a bit old, but I wanted to share that I had a similar problem with just the ISY module.

I had found the wdISY on the play market as a very limited functionality program for the local network.

Since I was interested in Android development I made creating a replacement as my first project.  I've posted this to the play market which can be found below...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pataelmo.isycontroller

Currently it will allow any valid URL path to your ISY.  I would recommend you use https to ensure your username/password doesn't get sent over the internet unencrypted.  The present version will show you're tree of devices programmed into the ISY and allow you to command nodes and scenes.

Hopefully someone else finds this useful.  And feel free to contact me if you have any specific feature requests.   I am currently working on adding support for Programs & Variables.  I also want to add support for showing info from climate modules, the status and error logs, and the network module.
