News about WC32?

Hello,

I have given up on cloud based IoT, even if it comes WiFi included...
Now I have found a product with capacitive screen and javascript programming for 149 USD. Before heading for that, I want to ask whether there any plans offering a beefed up version of the WC32?

thanks
Best Regards

WC32 supports PLC programming.  We are about release new firmware with RTC support.  Currently, user can write his own GUI code in HTML with javascript for WC32, but that is limited to GUI part only.

I see thanks for answering. So the idea of an ecotope including cheap remote unitis and a central unit allowing high level languages has still not sprung ;-)

Microcontroller executes machine language code, that is compiled during our firmware development.  To be able to use another language to generate a different firmware, you are talking about writing your own firmware, like those board-like products out there. Our product is not designed for that purpose.  WebControl developed for users who don't really want to spend time to debug low level code, for users who don't want to spend too much time to understand microcontroller internal registers and functions.  WebControl allows users to deploy their projects in short period of time, since PLC language shield user from that complex process.

The microcontroller is not like a PC that has big hard disk to store lengthy high level program and compiler on it.  So that to support another high level language will not fit into the ROM or RAM on board.

I think in a short period of time we will not have any "microcontroller" in private automation, those software unfriendly devices will stay only with battery driven applications. Developers tend towards using platforms derived from multimedia devices (Mediatek modules, partly running Linux). But we will see if they manage presenting stable systems.

When any device needs talk to environment, like IO or analog signals, or control critical devices, Linux based multimedia mostly could not handle it reliably. WebControl not only can handle IO by itself, it can also communicate with other computers or devices to gather input and control outputs. For fun is one thing. For serious control is another.  Those board only products you talked also do not have anyone providing support.  We do provide support for our customers.  I think you and I are talking about orange and apple.  A lot of dreamware out there never last on the market.  Although you predicted WC8 would disappear last year, WebControl does what it says and stay on the market.

No, that is not correct, the mentioned boards do have
- full hardware control over IO,
- an ecotope of sensing and acting plug and play periphery

What I learned is that 1wire is not supported yet. of course I do not know about practical issues yet.
My prediction about the decease of the wc8 has not happened, due to the fact that prices of the wc32 were not reduced. I'm still open to an ecotope using WCs, if usability increases. The software aspect may be developed further.

The boards you wanted are not products, they were tossing ideas to collect investment. That is a vaporware compare to a real product.

Falsifying your statement I can only give links where you may (pre-)order them. I had sent them to you in a private communication.

I just found one example for the espruino focusing on 1-wire, and some LAN connectivity. So there will be a comparison to the WC possible soon in practice....

Efried,

This sub forum is for discussion for WebControl. If you like to talk something else, please post into proper section. WebControl is a product in the market since 2008 and going through many generations. The vaporware you talked is not on the market and it is not fit in this sub forum.  We appreciate your suggestion for new products, but we will not drop our products like your imagined, nor stop supporting our customers.

I know - I'm running 3-4 WCs and may compare them to the other products- may be you don't know the definition of vapourware- just have a look at this: http://www.espruino.com/
I'm happy seeing you take up some pleas, for example for 12 bit ADC - and I'm sure you will also revamp the programming interface some time - so keep on working- I appreciate this.
