Analogue Cams on Snap-Link

Hi everyone,

We have a client with existing analogue camera system in place, wanting to upgrade to a Leviton Omni-controller.

Is there any way to display the analogue cameras on his Snap-link app.
The cameras are connected to a DVR with remote access in place.

I know this is not a problem with IP cams, but he recently spent quite a lot on upgrading the camera system to the new HD type analogue cameras & would like to utilize it if possible.

Thanking you in advance.
Hein.

Your source for stills or videos via IP should be the DVR for use with Snaplink.

Guessing that you can get stills, H264 and MJPEG motion views from your DVR.

The main difference between H.264 and MJPEG is that MJPEG only compresses individual frames of video, while H.264 compresses across frames.

MJPEG is the compilation of separately compressed JPEGs in a sequence, which leads to high quality outcome in terms of resolution.

With H.264, on the other hand, only some frames are compressed by themselves, while most of them only record changes from the previous frame. This can save a significant amount of bandwidth compared to MJPEG (which encodes each frame as new), but results in a video of lower quality.

H.264 pros/cons
+ reduces bandwidth and storage consumption significantly
+ adaptive video quality based on bandwidth
+ suitable for storage
+ / –  complexity setup – sometimes tricky to set up – streaming quality, frame rate and i frame rate. GOP, VBR, CBR etc.

MJPEG pros/cons
+ consistently great image quality
+ robustness, if one frame is dropped, then it does not affect the video
– no sound
– consumes much more bandwidth and storage

Snaplink configuration of the Video Page

The Video page displays the cameras controlled by your HAI Controller. When you highlight and select a camera, Snap-Link Mobile will attempt to connect to the camera and show its video feed on the device. Snap-Link Mobile currently supports cameras that can stream MJPEG, or have still frame JPG support.

You can also Add, Remove or Edit the cameras listed by selecting the Menu button.

The above written if your DVR only supports H264 streaming then I would just utilize the smart phone client that came with the DVR.
