A client just purchased a mix of security products from Fry's electronics complete with cable assemblies for A/V, power low voltage etc. I am trying to figure out a way to verify that the cables meet the code requirements for fire spread to be used inside the walls of their residence. Only...

    All Flourexcent Future

President Bush has signed into law a bill that bans incandescent lamps in the near future, Only flurescent lamps and CFL's will be installed in new construction in a couple of years. In California title 24 already has the same provisions. Flourescents are inherently noisy, generating a huge...

    Which Keypad for Elk System?

I use the KP1 at the door from the garage with the prox sensor installed. Everyone has their keys in their hands anyway so the keyfob is a natural fit in that area. The KP2 had the best customer appeal from my customers.

    Prewiring for ceiling speakers....

I pre-run the wire, wait until the drywall lid is installed, cut the speaker holes and then duct tape paper paint buckets from the paint store over the holes, puch a hole through the top with a screwdriver and feed the wire in. At install time, just hookup the wire and shove the speaker in the...

    Elk dial out

When the M1 dials out to deliver a voice message during a zone violation and the # sign is pressed as an acknowledgement on the phone, does that disable the armed state? If it does, then I assume you would have to hang up, dial the control, wait for the beeps and re-arm the system with your...

    Programming Elk for dial out

Customer was on vacation, but when I finally got back into the house the fix was simple. 2 problems, a blank space before the phone number and the number of dialing attempts was set at 8. Apparently the max number of attempts for voice is 2. All is well now, customer is happy, thanks for the...

    Programming Elk for dial out

Thanks, but as I said in my post, i used the identical rules that worked in the last customers M1. That is why I am stumped with this system. The only difference is that the first system is also set up to act as an answering machine for remote telephone access.

    House Wiring Question

I wouldn't wory about the UPB signal not getting through a subpanel. I can control an outbuilding and even the lighting in the house across the street (still under construction...lol) from my house. Just be sure to install a phase coupler in your main panel.
