Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

I would motor over to the link I posted.  There are similar DIY forums focused on your specific panel.

What do you want to do?  Add sensors, acquire a monitoring company, etc.?   Looks like you might want to start here: http://www.northstaralarm.com/

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

DE, if you read my post carefully, you'll see I had disconnected the cicuit wires from the panel.  The probes show the panel presents an impedance of 4.7K which is just another clue that the circuit has 4.7K impedance in it SOMEWHERE.   I have seven zones, so I may need to locate seven EOLRs. ...

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

Summing up, I couldn't find an EOLR on the first sensor I examined in Zone 1.  Since there is only a single pair running to the panel's zone one terminals, and there are two sensors in zone 1, it appears the two NC sensors in Zone 1 are wired in series.  If there is to be an EOLR, presumably it...

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

Reading the various posts and references, since I could not find an EOLR on presumably the "first" NC sensor on my Zone 1 (there is another NC sensor in this zone which I have not yet examined), one would expect, if "normal" practice was followed, that this second sensor would have the EOLR...

ELK M1 only zone 1 works

The easiest sensor for me to examine is the one in my garage entry door to house.  Added advantage: its the only one that I can get to without creating an opening directly to the 25 degree weather outside.  It is a "plunger" type switch, extended on open, depressed by the closed door on close. ...

Thanks very much for this info.  Now I need to do some detective work.

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

I put some probes on the Zone 1 terminals ("Zone 1" and the adjacent "Common") and read 4.7K ohms.   Locating these resistors and replacing them might be problematic.  Everything is built in behind walls.  Just based on the name, I assume these EOLRs would be located at the end of the circuit...

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

A couple of last questions before I purchase something...   Earlier, it was said that the presence (or absence) of EOLRs would influence the decision process on a replacement panel.  As my schematic indicates that I have them, how do I account for that in assessing a replacement system?   Any...

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

I have a schematic, as suggested on the inside of the cover, where it is listed as a BHS-2000D control panel.  Also, below the schematic on the door, the installers taped a pre formatted 5 x 7 card that lists the zones and type of zone (exit/entry, fire, etc.).  There is a third column, labeled...

Hopefully, I've uploaded a photo of my current panel.  Does it present any particular problems or opportunities?

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

Great!  Very much appreciate this info, as it allows me to take at least a baby step forward on this project.  I have lots of time and am in no hurry.  I think I'll post a photo of my existing box to see if it provides any further clues for the next steps...  Thanks again.

Well, this is encouraging.  I believe there were seven zones under the old system.  To best illustrate what a low level of understanding I am starting with, what is an EOLR and POTS service?   I live in the DC metro area.   And I love reading instruction manuals.

Incorporating Older ADT Sensors into New DIY Security Sys

My home was built in 1997 at which time Brinks (subsequently Broadview, subsequently ADT) installed a wired in system of magnetic open close sensors in all the doors and first floor windows, motion detectors, and smoke detectors.  I had a billing dispute with ADT some months ago concerning their...
