    Insteon Failures

I've also had a rash of Insteon KeypadLincs die a buzzing, non-operative death in the last few months.   I'm sort of at a tipping point where I feel it may be more feasible economically to replace my remaining Insteon switches with another technology rather than continue to expand on a system...

    Switchlinc and GFCI

Forgive me if this has been posted before, a search didn't turn anything up..   I'm trying to replace the standard on/off switch controlling my pool light with a non-dim Switchlinc.   The switch is currently downstream of a GFCI outlet in the control box.   With the Switchlinc in place, the GFCI...

    measuring RF field strength

An RF Power Meter is what you'd ideally want, but they are $$$$.  A spectrum analyzer would put you in roughly the same ballpark for much less. An analyzer with a tracking generator would also allow you to test the sensitivity of your receiver.       Not necessarily.  Most cases you'd connect...

    measuring RF field strength

What's your budget?  Be aware that you get what you pay for with these devices, mostly in terms of accuracy and response time.   http://rfexplorer.com/models/   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-2712-9kHz-1-8GHz-Spectrum-Analyzer-/231287797745?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35d9d3b7f1  ...

    Weigand reader problem

Add one component at a time until your reader stops working, that should allow you to isolate the conflict.   Start with working configuration.   Add hub, check reader.   Add expander, check reader.   Etc.

    M1KP2 Flash

Hmm, no POTS connection, but I'll poke around a bit for that thread.   Edit: Found it.    http://cocoontech.com/forums/topic/7899-elk-kp2-flashes-to-full-bright-intermittently/     Seems it's just a thing of no real concern.  Good to know.

    M1KP2 Flash

I recently installed a KP2 in the master bedroom using existing wiring from the old system and a retrofit hub at the control end.   Everything works as expected although I'm noticing a 'flash' on the keypad every so often.   I have the brightness set around 2, if I recall correctly, just enough...

    Whole Home Audio - Technologies

Just to add some info..   When I bought my house, 3 rooms and the back patio were wired with speakers back to a closet by the laundry room.    After looking at various options I ended up putting 3 Sonos ZP120s in the closet to drive the den, master bedroom and patio speakers.  I have since added...

    Simpleminded questions about Elk M1XEP

ElkRP wants to see an exclusive connection.   When not using ElkRP, I've never had any kind of traffic issue that I've noticed.

    Zip tie gun recommendations?

    Garage Door - Hacked

I use a heavy duty padlock through a hole I drilled on the track above a roller.   With it in place the door cannot open, but has just enough travel to trigger the sensor.   It's not the everyday lock, but if I'll be away for a while it goes on.

Best Source of Cable and Wire

JMO, stick with Belden, Gepco or one of the major wire manufacturers if quality is a concern. I use Belden for all my coax and network cable needs. Never had any issue with their product.

Upgrading to ELK M1 Gold and relocating panel

Ah, yes, forget you were switching alarms. If you had an Elk currently installed, your sensors would be wired in zones 1-16. The expander shows up as zones 17-32.
