ELK M1kp2 keypad showing Lost Comm

Boy, am I glad I checked this before digging into my wiring.  I just added a new keypad and after setting the address I got the lost comm.  Of course I started having doubts about what I had done, but checked here first and I'm sure it saved me many hours of frustration.

National Alarm Monitoring Companies for DIYers

Thank you joek.  Just placed my order.  Let the automation (and custom security) begin!  Actually, it began when we fist took over the new house and I replaced all of the deadbolt locks with Medeco's.  I was shocked to learn that the builder didn't even install a deadbolt, or any lock for that...

National Alarm Monitoring Companies for DIYers

Where can you buy the C1M1 without being a dealer?  When I spoke to Home Controls they said they wouldn't sell me the unit because I was not a dealer.

National Alarm Monitoring Companies for DIYers

I just called AlarmRelay to ask the same question I just posted and they were quite helpful.  They did state that they would handle the Telguard issue and with the setup of the C1M1 comms to their system.  They did state that the "cell towers" were no longer allowing 3G or 4G connections and to...

National Alarm Monitoring Companies for DIYers

I'm new to all of this, but will soon be installing an ELK M1 and was considering the C1M1.  However, when reviewing the ELK C1M1 training video is says you must have a Telguard account to use the C1M1.  I just got off the phone with Telguard and they say they only deal with alarm companies. ...

    Screening landline and VOIP calls

Thanks!  Can't wait to give this a try.  I've been living overseas for the past 11 years waiting to get back to the US and settle down and have been thinking about all the automation I want to do in my new home.  Less than two months away now.  Getting excited.

    Screening landline and VOIP calls

Is the box you are using the Way2Call Hi-Phone Desktop Pro or Lite?  Where would I learn how to set this up?  I'm planning to also have HS3.

    Screening landline and VOIP calls

I'm a couple months away from my new home and diving into home automation.  One of the things I'm looking for is way to screen phone calls that I can't find in the offerings I'm seeing at Amazon.  I would like to have a white list with multiple tiers to provide different messages based on the...

Planning to Automate - with noise

A lot of very good advice here.  I've been modeling the floor plans in SketchUp.  Once I settle on a particular building lot I’ll lay the plan down and check out all the natural lighting issues.

Planning to Automate - with noise

The builder's sub that does all the LV wiring will install a single gang box with one cat5 for $185, or two cat5's to the same box for 300, or three for $375.  They charge $25 to upgrade any cat5 to cat6, which I plan to do.  I got this information from the brochure they gave me, but I haven't...

Planning to Automate - with noise

When we bought our last house, which we are now renting while we are overseas, the basement was unfinished.  I finished it myself.  One of the first things I did was cut open the sheetrock above the electrical panel in the garage and stubbed out a 3/4 EMT, ran it across the garage ceiling and...

Planning to Automate - with noise

Yes, I wish I could put in (myself) what I want before the drywall goes up, but unfortunately with my situation that won't be possible.  We'll still be overseas while the house is being built, so that it will be ready about the time we move back to the U.S.  Also, due to liability issues the...

Planning to Automate - with noise

Choots - Yes electrical noise is what I was getting at, but the other type can also be bothersome, although I don't think it would cause my lights to flicker.  Thanks for the link to the filter.  I figured there was probably something like this available, but never really looked into it before...

Planning to Automate - with noise

I'm in the decision making process starting from scratch to automate a new 5,000 sq.ft. home (move-in summer 2016).  I'm the DIY type and have been considering HS3 w/HomeTroller S6 PRO, ELK M1 Gold, UPB, some Z-Wave, and HTD audio.  (At one point in the distant past I planned to use HAI, but...

    What I learned Automating Blinds

Unfortunately, I'm not building myself and the builder is not a custom builder.  So, I'm not sure that I could get them to wire things exactly the way I would, but at least I can have them add outlets right next to each window.  I'll have them to this in places where I would have to rip out...
