the new Elk 6050 2 way wireless smoke alarm.. 110V?

One of the requirements here in NY is when a new build, or a remodel where the walls are open, the law says the smokes must be powered via hardwired 110v interconnected, and battery backup.   I satisfied the rules here with my M1 install, and the GE wireless smokes by installing Kidde type ...

    Cable Internet During Power Outage

I'll have to ask the Time Warner guy next time I see him... in my area, when neighborhood power goes out, my internet goes out, including IP based TV. So my OOMA system also goes out. Here's a blurb from TimeWarner, saying that they don't guarantee E911 in event of their own network outage. And...

    During a power outage...what happens

use a volt meter to identify which end of the existing plug, and its corresponding wires you cut from the wall wart, is positive and negative so as to ensure you power up the M1XEP correctly. Also, even though you power up all your home equipement via batts and UPSes... ensure your ISP is still...

Elk M1G monitoring service with AlarmRelay.com includes DDNS setup?

What are you going to do when your ISP has a power outage? That's the problem I have here... even though I have battery backup and generators on all my lan equipment, my ISP has pole mounted repeaters that quit during power outage. No power, no notifications...

    Email alerts, web self-monitoring

Make absolutely sure... your cable and internet works thru a power outage. You might have UPS and/or batteries on your home equipment, but the cable might go thru a pole repeater. If that repeater is powered by line power at the pole, well lets just say my internet goes out on cable when the...

    Total Newbie Question - VRC0P +3 versus non-Leviton Z-Wave

yeah.. Its not without its own level of hassle. When I tried to get a Zwave thermostat incorporated, I had a hard time. This is what I got from Elk Tech support. It might help your cause: (note: not all my devices associate, one zwave switch is fussy.. but it works from the Elk like I mentioned...

    Total Newbie Question - VRC0P +3 versus non-Leviton Z-Wave

I have that setup. I bought a couple non- RF+ devices (1 switch, 1 plug in lamp module) Yes they work, but they are not reported back in the Vizia RF configuration tool like the real RF+ stuff. I think it says "unknown device" if I recall... but the Elk does turn them on and off via Rules. I...

    Elk keypad wiring question

heh... when I worked at NY Telephone one summer in 1972, subbing for the guys on vacation.. they would call them "rat rubbers". But i've not heard that term since then.

Wish me luck - just pulled the trigger on Elk M1G system purchase

so ifI have a GE crystal wireless receiver already installed with some door & window sensors, and wish to add in this new 2 way capability to my existing M1G system, (I like the keyfob!) will it be ok to have BOTH installed?

    alarm system on a UPS

True. To work around this issue, I found a 6v relay at Radio shack I had in my junkbox. I also have a boatload of spare wall wart power supplies. I simply put an unused Elk zone on the relay contacts, and plugged the wall wart into a non-protected power outlet. Now I know when the power goes...

    Water bug/ water sensors

search for a thread called Water Sensors -- where? it has discussion of making your own water sensor using copper wire and 470k ohm resistor.

Z-wave vrusb primary with vizia rf toolkit, adding secondary controllers

I have same setup and bought a GE 45601 on Amazon for $15. It too comes up as unknown device, but I got as far as having it turn on and off ALL the devices on the network. Very bizarre to have every light and house fans come on at the same time... After putzing for better part of an hour trying...

    Elk M1Gold retrofit setup questions.

for 16 windows and 4 doors, it's way too much trouble than it's worth to retrofit EOL. Just do the Normally Open / Normally Closed option at the panel for each zone.. If the sensors and wiring is in good shape, forget the EOL.

Elk water shutoff valve (WSV) wiring question

If power were completely not available (no 12v for what ever reason...) would it be possible to manually turn that big knob on top with a wrench, to open or close the valve in dire emergency?

ELK-M1 hookup verification & EOL resistor

It refers to the status the sensor is in "un alarmed" state. So when the magnet is near the sensor, its in it's "normal" state, and therefore closed. Heres another example.. my sump pump has a float switch. The 'normal" state for it is OPEN, so its a Normally Open switch. When the water level...
