"later removed the XEP transformer and powered the XEP from the 12vdc aux power supply on the M1."
How did you do this? More details on this please or maybe a pic, this is exactly what I would like to do too.

So my Elk system is up and running and now I am in the cleanup process of tucking in all the wires neatly.
I am stuck at XEP power. Currenly its powered by a wall wart outside the can and the wire going all around.
Should I move the wall wart INSIDE the can? If yes, how do I get power in...
I am going through the datasheet and the only difference seems to be that M1TWA is amplified(and volume control) and M1TWI is not.
Is that the case or I am missing something?

Spent some more time over the weekend trying to understand whats going on.
Drilled some more (scared chicken shit..) from the bottom to see if I come out somewhere I can see.
Used a smaller drill, so just to recap, I drilled through the 2 2x4 and hit a hollow space of approx 12". Then...
Excellent points. I will come back and refer to them when I come back to patching the drywall.
Have some family commitments this afternoon....will resume exploration after that :-)

@RAL - I think I agree with most of what you have drawn except based on tapping from the top and bottom I think the network box location is shifted 1-2 studs towards label 4&5.
I think my staircase is slightly different in the sense that the underneath room does not end where the stairs end...
I think I want to call it a day and sleep on it....see if anything dawns on me or one of you what might be happening here...
Will start on this tomorrow with a fresh mind.

Go slow is the only reason why it took me the WHOLE FREKIN day to run 1 frekin wire!!!
Sorry...just frustated...I guess I need a beer :-)
Still scratching my head on why the original cable was run this way....what am I missing...
Accepted that the hole from the top and bottom are not in...
Yup, have all of those...thats what I am using for all these long range drilling.....who said DIY is cheap :-)
Did some more measurements, If I probe the hole from the bottom, I can go in approx 15" before I hit something.
so if its 2 2x4s that approx 4 inches...then a 2x12....or 2x10 ...
I might do that...get the drawings. I did get some drawing from the pervious owner but they just have the elevations...no interior details.
The copies from the city will have everything?
Here is a picture of the stackup I drew based on my understanding.
What still beats me is that I am in...
I really hope it helps someone else coz I am Pissed (with a capital P)
Still staring at the pic RAL sent and trying to wrap my head around what might be happening....

Thanks Pete for the suggestions. I do have plans but the toughest part for me has been running the wires. Either I suck bad or have been really unlucky.
I think extending the network can all the way is doable and part of my plan.
Not so sure if I can do the same in MBR, it would be in plain...
