    DC power UPS?

I wanted to report that my UPS based on a LiFePo battery hasn't missed a beat since it was installed.   This battery chemistry looks like a good balance of lifespan, charge/depletion cycles, and cost.   In contrast, the sealed lead/acid battery in the security sub-system had to be replaced in...

    DC power UPS?

I thought NeverDie's question was worth investigating.   The life time of the LiFePo4 batteries vs their added cost is an important question when/if the use case is a UPS, not a mobile use case like a golf cart where the weight is a factor in the evaluation.   The analysis by this user was...

Rule to turn on output on M1KAM not working

I would triple check your output calculation.   I am also using the KAM and operating a solenoid door jamb release.   In my system it was output 195, not 194.

    DC power UPS?

Well, I finished my build and it has been running for two weeks.   Here is a link to my parts list post earlier in this thread:  Link   And this is a simple diagram of how I finished out the project:

    DC power UPS?

Thinking about RAL's comments, I'll have to agree with his critiques.   It probably isn't necessary to have a DC/DC converter downstream of the input/battery elements.     Adding a picoUPS and an SLA battery would work for my use case; powering network, security and automation major components. ...

    DC power UPS?

Hello NeverDie,   The DC/DC converter in the OpenUPS I've chosen (from mini-box) is a buck/boost converter and it will shut down when the input voltage drops below 6V.   The operating range is from 6V to 30V.   The threshold where it shuts off is configurable.   For a SLA I would probably set it...

    DC power UPS?

There have been several really good posts in this thread.    I'm a big proponent of green and sustainable design.   When I do a build or buy analysis, I try and figure out the fun factor, any inovative elements which should be tried, and the impact of the project on sustainability.   So, a few...

    DC power UPS?

All good thoughts and comments, RAL.   Since I already have the power supply, the new cost for me is the OpenUPS and the fuse block.  Both total about $150.  The ebay option you found was gone by the time I read your post.   Another was available for about $80.   So, in cost, the Altronix...

    DC power UPS?

This issue recently became a project for me as well.   I wanted fault tolerance for a power outage.  And, because I use my network connection for my connection to alarmrelay, I wanted my networking core components to be on a UPS.   Ok... here goes my shot at this. 1. 12V power supply - std open...

Newbie has Couple of Questions on Home Security

A wired "zone" is made up of a single wire loop and a sensor or sensor group. Since some sensors need power, a second pair is often needed. Acoustic glassbreak sound sensors or motion sensors are examples of types which need separate power. Cat5 is a little bit of overkill in most cases...
