wires in--now can't decide on home audio sytstem

Thanks, upstatemike, way to throw some more stuff into the mix. Looking at squeezebox looks like all my music is going to be streamed over the wireless network sometime in the future. I don't have much to add to your matrix as it looks like your looking at mostly the higher end stuff. I could...

wires in--now can't decide on home audio sytstem

Don't worry I won't give away your secrets :), but I'll take that as some good advice. Funny, I thought I had him sold on the expensive system when I asked for $2000 thinking that I definitely didn't want to do abus. Then I realized these things can easily get up to $4000. By the way, If I...

wires in--now can't decide on home audio sytstem

re: HTD... Now i remember seeing their site and thinking it was so reasonable, but no stock could be found on their advance systems. I see their website now says that new stock will be in end of April. Now both of these systems are giving me hope of not getting in hot water!

wires in--now can't decide on home audio sytstem

Thanks for the Breathaudio tip. It seems like I could have 12 zones, 6 sources for the same price as 6/6. Does anyone own one? Is it reliable? Makes one worry when it's about half the price of other 6 source/6 zone systems. I'll also check out the HTD. Hubby will be pleased if I can pull...

wires in--now can't decide on home audio sytstem

Whew, just finished all the wiring this weekend & there is plenty installed! Now I'm trying to finalize my zones for audio. Here's my thoughts on a six zone Russound: 1. master bed keypad + abus subzone in master bath 2. craft room keypad + abus subzone in laundry 3. Rec room keypad +vol...

    Home Automation wannabe

I'm willing to spend the $200 per thermostat since that is already in the HVAC bid. I am just wondering if that money will be wasted on the Honeywell thermostats since the Elk doesn't specifically say that it is a supported thermostat. Should I just insist on getting a HAI, RCS, or Aprilaire...

    Home Automation wannabe

I have asked a few questions here and always get some friendly advice. We are currently finishing up electrical and they are ready to wire the thermostat. I hope to install an Elk M1 G, so I had requested the wiring so I could replace the cheap thermostats with the Aprilaire 8870. Turns out...

    lighting wiring question

Sacedog--I think I must have read all the threads about your decision. It seems like OnQ will probably be the way we go. The only downside is not being able to have a bank of 6 switches replaced with one neat little box. I don't like the idea of putting switches in closets and then using the...

    Home audio / TV question

OK, so swimming through some more of this stuff... I am planning whole house audio with a Russound or Xantech type system--wow! those xantech lcds are nice. I am wondering if I need the video distribution part of this. Is this primarily for lcd control panels? Or is it to have the sound for...

    lighting wiring question

After a year of delay and re-design, we finally broke ground and now I need to get back up to speed with what I want to do with HA and lighting controls. Since lighting control is low on the budget priorities, I may not know which way I can go until after the drywall is up. I am thinking of...

    Prewiring silly question? Faceplates

OK, thanks for the help. I am going to lower my regular switches 4" and install the low voltage in a box above the switches and cover with a blank faceplate for now. The blank plates will just be motivation to get those keypads in. The wire for speakers, motions, etc. I will see if the...

    Prewiring silly question? Faceplates

hmmm...it seems I was told that I should use plastic boxes, but I can't remember the reason now. Something to do with future RF devices or some kind of interference?

    Prewiring silly question? Faceplates

Ok, I've read and read and read about prewiring and structured wiring systems. I like many other posts I've read am interested in getting all the wiring I can in before they close up the walls. I've got all that pretty much figured out. Now for the silly question-- If I'm not putting in...
