Elk M1 (Ness M1) Rules Memory expansion

You could use a universal devices ISY to carry the rule load. It's integration with the M1 is flawless and instantaneous.

retrofitting Google Home/Alexa/IFTTT functionality into classically remote-controlled Hunter Douglas

I have not attempted, but it's on my list of todos. I have the IR generation of Hunterdouglas cell shades. it would be a pretty simple matter to use a globalcache wifi IR repeater to send IR commands to open/close. My ISY can send commands to the global cache, and it's also integrated as a smart...

Any good or bad words about the Elk C1M1 device and ElkLink service?

Can you use it as an XEP and not bother with the cellular link? My XEP died, and I'm wondering if this might be a more robust replacement for the XEP. Again, I don't need the cellular link. Price is similar if you think about buying multiple XEPs as thet die, so price difference between the two...

    Best monitoring service

Sorry - Elk M1. A/R does not know, they say to use the latest to keep it easy.

    Best monitoring service

Do you know if Alarm-Relay works with V4 firmware? I've been dragging my feet on migrating from Caddx wireless to the new stuff. Will be expensive... TIA

National Alarm Monitoring Companies for DIYers

I have a bit of bad luck with Next Alarm in their recent platform transition. I've learned that I'm dealing with a company that is pretty much vapor/virtual at this point. I hope it does not mean they are dismantling it or putting it on autopilot. It's been 7 years, but I think it's time to...

    ELK M1, ISY994iZW, Alexa & Locks

+1 This is the setup I have, and it works really well. (M1 + ISY + Alexa). The M1 is past its prime with native lighting control. The ISY994Zw is nearly as good with zwave as homeseer (what I used before). I use the bazillion binary output controls on the M1 to control lighting on the ISY...

    Bitwise, is it a winner?

Bitwise dropped out of the DIY market many years ago and f'd many of us. I had about 2K worth of units and all of a sudden lost support and any value. Maybe this world is too small for spite, but I've got zero tolerance for companies like the founding company of this product.

Elk - Tstat Thermostat Rules Based On Season

This is what I did, kinda overkill but has worked for us for about 12 years now. If I want to change basic parameters I just change custom settings.    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zimPaol4YGTEHZmvZ36sZQw3UaWV2XC6riMjA8l2AZg/pubhtml?gid=1331810954&single=true

    Warning doing business with Monoprice!

I've gone through two of their house brand 4x2 switchers. They would not fix them. Turned out to be the power supply on the first.

Why are there so many redundant home automation platforms being launched?

All the older systems out there (CQC, Homeseer, Elk, HAI, etc) are falling short of the expectations of the next generation of DIYers (easy, sexy, and next gen devices), so I'm not surprised with all the new shots on goal being taken. "IOT" is great buzzword at the moment, and lots of capital...

    New style LED bulbs

I have been trying these out - they are the real deal. Look just like an incandescent, very similar color, and some even Dim (and dim very well with the new Vera dimmers). They make candelabra lights in this style, which I am thankful for since someone had the bright idea to make all our light...

    ELK-M1XSLZW/VRC0P+3 vs. ISY 994iZW w/ Elk Module

I've been through 4 zwave systems now. Every switch in the house is Zwave - about 70 modules, including a few locks, motions sensors, and stand-alone switch for decorative lighting. I started with the original Elk Zwave module, that turned out to have a fundamental design flaw with big networks...

    Frustrated with home automation software

I'm really tempted to move to CQC after my brief encounter with HS3 (and 8 years of HomeSeer). Can someone comment on how robust a very large (50-70 nodes) zwave system would be? In the early days of zwave, networks seemed to benefit from routine optimizations, which is now core to HomeSeer's...

Anyone here use bitwise IR/IO controllers?

Since they dropped support for their plugin in homeseer, I'm considering something else.
