Worked in the pay TV industries in the early '80s also pre-wired for security systems and did some of the earlier whole house audio systems in our area. They were very simple by today's standards.
Made my living as a mechanic, supervisor and manager in both retail automotive and military aviation.
Retired early from the military (Air National Guard) and eventually landed in HVAC industry selling parts to contractors.Took another early retirement and now I never have free time. go figure.
I'm an avid DIY'er with a well networked house that supports a Sage TV system that meets most of our entertainment needs and wants. I should be through with the installation of the security system by now, but I let other things take my time for a while. I got on the CQC band wagon fairly early. but never really did much with it.
The UPB lighting system is over 50 devices. The sage TV network is still working and its about to move to a new Linux box. I may soon add Home Assistant to that server. I never got the security system installed, but I have equipment in place to support POE cameras, and will add security devices as I can.
