    Yet another Omni gone weird

That someone is me. It's still available if anybody's interested. If you're using X10 or Decora PLC, it's a great addition for reliability. I just don't use it anymore and hate to throw it away. It does require wiring into the breaker panel. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

New deployment for Catalyst 3560 vs 3750x Series

FWIW, the 3750-X mentioned also comes with a free lifetime warranty from Cisco.

Migrate HA Server from Homeseer to ?

Comparing open source software with Homeseer will be tough as they are completely different support models.    Homeseer has a active group of forum users which can address the nuances of 'how to' or 'watch out for this bug' or 'how to work around this bug' but they can't actually change the...

Migrate HA Server from Homeseer to ?

I know it's 'whining' but I wish Homeseer would whittle down the open bugs before moving on to something shiny. :)

Migrate HA Server from Homeseer to ?

Premise was my initial thought (no research done  ). Is there a document somewhere that describes the hardware it supports? Does it have any kind of touchscreen support? (one of the things in Homeseer I wish was better).

Migrate HA Server from Homeseer to ?

All,   I've been a Homeseer user since early 2001, previously using ECS from about 1998.    I'm starting to feel about Homeseer the way I felt about ECS in 2000 - it may not be the way forward for me. I don't think I'll commit to version 3 from version 2; and I'm not sure Homeseer has the plan...

MAJOR security flaw found in Belkin WeMo, "deathtrap"

Yep,that's my point exactly - that both threats are relatively slim. And I haven't heard any evidence that the hacking fire starter is more likely than the random fire bomber. :) In other words it's interesting, but not very actionable.

MAJOR security flaw found in Belkin WeMo, "deathtrap"

and fear mongering seems to be the favorite contact sport of the day. For example, look at the risk originally quoted here in this thread - potentially starting a fire. I can do that with a beer bottle, a pint of gasoline, and a rag. You've been vulnerable to that attack all my life, and will...

'Old Work'/Retrofit Low Voltage Boxes - Preferences?

I always use the metal low voltage plates. Clamp down the metal fold-over 'ears' with a pair of channel-lock pliers and they will be tight with no movement. No screws required. I've got a template made specifically to cut these with my rotozip.

    No Blu-Ray Audio

Both next gen audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio) must be carried on HDMI and aren't supported on optical outputs. Some Bluray have DD 5.1 as a secondary option. So your receiver must support HDMI audio decoding in order to hear these 2 formats. They DON'T have to be able to...

    HA Software Info: Omnipotence ECS

I used ECS for many years. Mark Gilmore, the author, provides excellent support and is a great guy. I moved to Homeseer about 6 years ago for standard windows scripting support and to move away from the 'single author' platform thinking that a group of people would provide a better product (very...

    Herman Miller promoting lighting automation?

I posted this over at the ce-pro forum and thought I'd mention it here. In a recent Fortune article (http://www.convia.com/assets/7918/FORTUNE-Herman-Miller-Furniture-Design.pdf) they mentioned how the Herman Miller company is promoting a flexible electrical infrastructure that allows office...

Has the time come for intelligent homes?

Sure, but I'd suggest they are no longer the "shade tree mechanic" ;) They are the intrepid souls who have decided to increase their skill and knowledge (and access to it using computerized tools). I have one myself, and you're right, for simple repairs they still can be relatively effective...
