    Software Essentials

Notify Me.   Notify Me is an Alexa skill that lets you push notifications to your Amazon Echo using a simple REST API.  This skill is great for home automation ("A leak has been detected in the laundry room"), home security ("Your garage door has been open for over an hour"), and many other...

    Warning doing business with Monoprice!

For what it's worth, I've been using a Monoprice 4x4 HDMI matrix since early 2012 and have had zero problems with it.  I did have a Monoprice HDMI/HDBaseT extender go bad, but they replaced it with no questions asked.  Of course, I returned it well within the warranty period.   -Randy

How to Send Temperature Data to ISY 994i

D'oh!  I just dropped it into the How To forum thread.  I'd move it, but I don't think have such powers.  I could simply start a topic in your CAI form thread that links to the post in the How To section.  Thoughts?

How to Send Temperature Data to ISY 994i

Whether you divide by 10 or multiply by .1 (which I don't think the PLC would like), the result will always be an integer because the PLC supports integers only.  In other words, anything to the right of the decimal place will be lost.   -Randy

How to Send Temperature Data to ISY 994i

@deaconwc So glad you got it working!  LarryLix is, of course, correct about the magic behind the math.  The temperature sensor input registers (T1 through T8) store integer values accurate to 1/10th of a degree so 72.6 degrees is stored as 726.  The code merely adds 5 (for rounding) and then...

How to Send Temperature Data to ISY 994i

I am not familiar with the WebControl BRE version of the board (though I must say the concept of a Boolean Run Engine interests me).  For my example to work, you need the WebControl PLC due to the fact I am relying on PLC code.   For a temperature sensor, I am currently using...

    SageTV Going Open-Source!

I have Kodi on my Fire TV as well (great stuff), but have yet to connect it to a tuner/server for live TV or DVR functions.  I've been waiting for my SageTV system to die first.  Fortunately, it and the HD200 I have continue to chug along.

    SageTV Going Open-Source!

I continue to find my still-running (fingers crossed) SageTV system better than any other solution out there.  Truly fantastic news.

    Echo

Here's a fellow who's discovered some interesting info: http://www.piettes.c...mazon-echo-api/   Similarly, here's a guy who is constantly polling the Echo's to-do list to act on voice "commands": https://www.youtube....h?v=r58ERvxT0qM   I'm hoping Amazon opens up the API, at least to the HA...

    day dreaming: run *everything* headless?

The line that runs to my family room goes into a Denon AV receiver and then the TV is plugged into that.  So, I do have a receiver + speakers still "cluttering" that room.  The cable just plugs right into the TV in the other rooms where I don't care about surround sound.   HDMI handshaking has...

    day dreaming: run *everything* headless?

Yes, that's exactly what they do.  Very useful devices.  You can get ones with built-in HD-BaseT outputs, but I have a regular HDMI unit from Monoprice.  One of the TVs is close enough that I feed it with a long HDMI cable; the other three go through HD-BaseT extenders & Cat5 cable.   -Randy

    day dreaming: run *everything* headless?

Here are how all my home theater devices are "organized."     I went crazy one weekend and (somewhat) neatly mounted them all to a flat surface which hangs vertically in a loft area where I have all my other equipment (cable modem, router, ISY, NAS drive).  This system is comprised of a SageTV...

How to Send Temperature Data to ISY 994i

With my setup, at least, it does appear that the ":80:isy" part of WebControl's Notify Setup is unnecessary -- it's likely only required if you are accessing the ISY from outside your local network.  It doesn't hurt anything, but it works fine with the IP address alone and so I have updated the...
