Thanks for the help! I'm interested to see how this works out for you. I have recessed doors, so the standard contact switches won't work. Can't decide between the plunger or magnetic one, however.

I am incredibly new at home security (and home ownership for that matter!) so forgive my ignorance. However, I am having a difficult time imaging a 9-12" horizontal hole being drilled in a door casing. (Wouldn't you being drilling about 6 inches into the wall itself?). Thanks!
