ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

Well - i swapped jumper settings and the firmware programming on the M1XSPs (vivia and hai) and looks like it's the M1XSP that's bad (the lighting didn't work at all when. However, the thermostats appear to respond to commands sent by the elk, but they do not seem to report current temp. And...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

I three central panels in the house and one in the outbuilding. Seems like you're recommending protecting only those that run outside the building/underground? So in terms of the 485 Bus, i could get away with: Data A / Data B / NEG only (no need for +VKP?) What about: 1) the other...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

Unless i'm missing something, i did it to code which is summarized here: http://forums.mikeholt.com/archive/index.php/t-57182.html The key is the low voltage i have running between the buildings. Network between them is over fiber, but the elk bus, coax, and phone would be considered paths...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

Ya the main panel and the subpanel at the outbuilding have there own ground bars (though they are grounded together as well back in the main panel). However, neutral is not bonded to ground in the subpanel, only the main... Still hoping Spanky chimes in with a miracle (esp on the HVAC) :)...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

Yep, but all are surge protected: (1) 24VAC wall wart powering the M1 (1) M1XEP power supply (2) 24VAC load side for all the relays on the M1RB (one wart in out building, one in the house). which leaves the Rj45 jack on the M1, the HAIs, and the Leviton RZCOP (connected to another M1XSP)...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

Neurorad, unfortunately, no - and reason was i had it in a UPS, but when power went out i couldn't tell unless it was long enough for the UPS to die. I should have used the non-battery backup, but i guess i wasn't thinking and hindsight is 20/20.... -> Update: actually I do have whole...

ELK - multiple problems after storm/lightening

We had a storm today and after a lightening strike, my shop overhead door closed. I thought this really odd (and in fact unsafe - given other devices i have on relays) and i'm pretty sure i'd never seen elk activate relay like that before on startup. My wife called a few minutes later to note...

    Elk Date Advanced

I searched this forum for this and didn't see anything recent... My sprinklers came on yesterday morning which was a day early (they're programmed for W) which i found odd. When i checked the keypad, sure enough the date said Nov 10th instead of Nov 9th. I have not been in program mode for...

    AT&T Uverse

ok - i'll buy that... so basically, let the DMX on the RG resolve to the router's wan IP which inturn opens either dmz or port forwarding to static on the elk?

My understanding was that DMZ only allows you to assign to a named device which is receiving its IP via DHCP. My frustration is that i want such a device be it the elk or an H/A server to have a static ip in the lan so i don't have to rely on name translation. Devices like the elk don't have...

    ipad

I didn't see any posts on this - is anyone else thinking that the ipad would potentially be a better portable touch solution (and/or remote control) than windows platforms like the Q1? my platform is J9AE, but i think that's irrelevant... regardless of the HA platform, i think this could be a...

    IR Codes from pronto

So i installed the PE NG (and pro for the 7000 unit) software for pronto from remotecentral. I downloaded some config pcf files as well for some devices i want. But i don't see how to pull the codes? When i open the cff and open the ui for my device, the IR code radio button is selected with a...

    AT&T Uverse

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the DMZ restriction - dmz has to be enabled on a box receiving DHCP (not good for elk or J9AE server, etc) or am i missing something You may find this long, but here's my review of it with feedback on several things related to my views on home automation...
