Do Vizia RF+ scene controllers need direct RF communcation to controlled devices?

Interesting. Is this a Z-Wave limitation, or a Vizia-RF+ limitation? Ideally you would want your scene controllers to be able to set brightness of any light, even if the light is not in direct range.

Do Vizia RF+ scene controllers need direct RF communcation to controlled devices?

I was reading documention on the Vizia RF+ 4 button scene controller. I noticed the following comment in their documentation: Controller will only Dim/Bright devices located within direct radio frequency range. I was wondering if someone could explain this. I was under the impression that...

    Z-wave maximum devices

I'm considering Z-wave for a pretty large installation. I expect to need as many as 150 or so devices. From what I have read, the hard limit is something like 256. I would like to use Vizia RF+, but from the Leviton documentation, it appears that they only support 128 devices. I am wondering...

    Thermostats - HVAC control

I'm looking for a stand-along coordinated thermostat system that can also be interfaced into a home automation system. The project is for a house with 5 different zones, so thermostats will be placed in a variety of locations. I want to be able to from a central location press a button that...

    Cooper vs. Leviton Z-Wave Devices

I see. Are there any other brands I should consider that also support 2-way notification? I agree with you that the Leviton devices always look on, which I think is confusing.

    Cooper vs. Leviton Z-Wave Devices

I'm getting ready to play with Z-Wave devices. I'm trying to decide between Cooper's line of devices, or Levitons. From what I can tell, both support 2-way Z-Wave - though I cannot determine if they both use the same "2-way" protocol. Is the 2-way notification standard for all Z-Wave devices...

Is This a Good Touch Screen?

How about the soon to be released Nokia N810. While it is not a windows device, you can develop software for it, and it has a browser. It should also be relatively cheap. I've actually been developing automation interfaces using the Google Web Toolkit. The N810 may be the perfect front end...

    Lighting control with motion sensors

Thanks - I think that is a possibility. A question: Has anyone attempted to interface the CADDX wireless controller directly to a PC? Is the CADDX device just an RS-485 peripheral? If it is, it probably speaks a simple protocol, and I can capture the wireless sensor events directly on my PC...

    Lighting control with motion sensors

I've installed a number of Insteon controls in my home and am pleased with their performance. What I'd now like to do is install a control system that allows me to schedule lighting scenes based on the time of day, mode (occupied or unoccupied), and also if a room has recently had motion. I'd...
