    Differences of 22/4

Thanks everyone for the info.   DEL - Can I run a 100ft run with shielded?   I was talking to my dad(he ran his own security system a few years back), and he said that all he used was old telephone wire and he hasn't had any issues. It is a honeywell system with window/door sensors and a couple...

    Differences of 22/4

Thanks Picta, I wasn't sure on the quality from Home depot and if that was the correct one. The wholesaler was around 230 for non shielded and stranded 1,000 ft. Last time I was in Home Depot, they didn't actually have any 22/4 in stock, but did have some 22/2. I was hoping to have it by the...

    Differences of 22/4

I went into an electrical wholesaler, and asked for 22/4 wire and they gave me a look of which kind I needed. I always read on here that you need 22/4, but no specifics. The options I had were for shielded, not shielded, twisted, solid, plenum, 2 pairs, and 4 conductor. I told them it was for...

    HAI Price increase!

If you could get a crestron system 40% off, would you still stick with HAI?

    HAI Price increase!

Makes me reconsider if I want to go with HAI now, but as someone else mentioned, elk isn't putting out any innovating products. I really don't want to go with one of the "packages" from comcast, adt, etc. I'm in the wiring phase, so my options are still open, but will be closing up walls in the...

    Hallway night lights

Getchel - Do you have any photos of this, sounds interesting? What did you end up using the 12v LED bulbs for?   Thank you everyone,

HAI - Which wired door/window contacts are you using?

I still have't decided on the exact sensor for each, but do most mount halfway up the window, or more near the bottom? It's been tough finding real diagrams, and I rather at least have the wiring there before I put insulation in. Thank you.

    Hallway night lights

Thanks BSR, how well does the sensor work on them? Or are they light and not motion sensitive?

    Hallway night lights

I was wondering has anyone automated inwall "night lights"? I'm doing an addition with about a 20ft hallway, and I was looking into permanent wall night lights, but wanted to see which ones people were using. I have no drywall up, and still haven't done my electrical inspection, so my options...

HAI - Which wired door/window contacts are you using?

Thank you, I didn't realize there were that many. I figured there were only a handful that would work with a certain brand.   1. I will use EOL, and have them external. 2. I rather not, unless someone knows for Anderson windows that it won't void warranty. 3. If this is continued from 2, I...

HAI - Which wired door/window contacts are you using?

I've basically settled on using an HAI setup in my house, and I was wondering which would be the best wired door and window sensors to use with it? I'm from the IT world so I know some products can be more pickier than others with what is connected to it, so I just wanted to make sure I used the...

100 ft run to keypad, Thermostat, or IP Cams - Cat6 Stranded?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. For Cat wire, I will only be using Cat6, I just wasn't sure on the stranded/solid. unless Cat5e would be better in some applications. Wouldn't I need to home run my thermostat wire back to my rack? Or is the thermostat wire only from the HVAC unit to the...

100 ft run to keypad, Thermostat, or IP Cams - Cat6 Stranded?

I've been reading up on this, and it seems to be conflicting information, I know that Stranded/twisted is meant for shorter runs but in the "Wiring Your New House" guide, it shows running Stranded/twisted to keypads, thermostats, and IP cams, but my runs will be close to 100 feet. Do I still run...

Exterior Temperature Gauge? With and without stand alone system.

Work2Play - when you say here, you mean the community right? Thanks for wunderground.com I'll take a look. I've been on a long time lurker, but finally started posting as I'm finally doing an addition on my house and will have a lot of walls open just waiting for cables.

Exterior Temperature Gauge? With and without stand alone system.

I'm looking for a thermostat that will record the outside temperature and that can be viewed on different devices. As of right now I do not have a controller(either HAI or Crestron), but I'd like one to use this device now, but then able to connect to either system. Is this possible? Or is there...
