On top of inexpensive drives, make sure you consider the D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure. It holds two SATA II drives of whatever capacity and only costs about $200 bucks. It has an FTP server built in, a 1gb LAN port and is based on the Linux OS. I've had two of mine running now for about 6 months now and use it to stream my DVD backups to my HTPC in the living room. Can't say enough good things about it! I did a review of this unit elsewhere in the forums
