Some customers request to modify their WebControl BRE web UI looking and feeling.
Do not know if there is such interest in this board. We are considering to open
the BRE firmware web GUI HTML code to this baord.

That would be nice, I have a few of the older BRE boards an it might be nice to modify them to report and be controlled with JSON or XML.

We still ship new boards with BRE firmware. The HTML part is same for HW rev 2.0.2 and 2.2.2.
Attached is the zipped HTML source code. You will need to download Microchip MPFS utility which is part of their application package.
After create the image, use DOS FTP to the BRE boards.
If anybody likes to post modified GUI, to share your creativity with this board, you are welcome to post modified code here.

Hi

Is there any chance of a basic 'how to' create an image?

I have downloaded 'Microchip Application Libraries v2011-07-14 Windows' and installed it, but not sure if right thing. I have loaded MPFS2 in TCP/IP Stack and selected the source to be the folder of the html source files, but not sure what the output type is supposed to be.

Also what version of the BRE firmware is the one you have posted below?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

In Advance settings, select MPFS Classic. Reserve Blocks = 139264

As the file name indicated, that is the source for 2-4-2 firmware version. There is no change to it since then. The new hardware board BRE firmwre version is 2.5.00, but web GUI is same.

Hi,

In the current versin of MPFS2 on the advance button you dont see MPFS Classic, and looking at the TCPIP Stack Help.pdf, it looks like they have removed it;

v5.36 2 June 2011
"The MPFS Classic and HTTP(1) modules have been removed from the stack. Function- ality to support these modules has also been removed from the TCP/IP Stack software tools. MPFS2 and HTTP2 are still supported."

I have gone to the archive page and downloaded a version from 2009 and i can now see the options you meantioned above. I will have a go at this tonight when i get home.

Thanks

Paul

Thanks, Paul. Your finding will help a lot other users.
Please keep us posted on your new GUI building result.

Hi, i tried it, and it failed to upload. The utility log shows all the files, and down the bottom it shows:

Uploading MPFS Classic image: 53142 bytes

ERROR: Could not contact remote device for upload.
ERROR: The remote server returned an error: (530) Not logged in.

If i try to ftp into the IP of the unit with the credentials that is in the MPFS (admin/microchip) it fails 530 Login required. The last time i was able to connect to the web interface on this device i had no password set on it.

I checked the web interface of my newer unit and noticed even though the web password was disabled, it was showing as being password.
I changed it in MPFS2, but it just sat there on contacting the unit, even though i could now ftp from the command line. I then tried to ftp the file from the Windows command line and when i rebooted the unit, it now shows the web pages.

Just wondering if i can enable ftp on my newer unit that is running v3.01.04 so i can downgrade it to the v2.4 firmware?

Paul

Paul,

After making the .bin web page image file, you will need to use FTP utility to ftp to WebControl BRE firmware.
You can use DOS FTP command from Windows 98 or Windows XP. They will run under Windows Vista or 7. Please make
sure you WebControl's IP address is correct. Once you upload, if your web page did not work, you will have to modify
and reload. Of course, you can do factory reset on baord, it will become DHCP enabled again. Then you can find its
IP address from your DHCP server log.

This is for making BRE web page only, it does not include any firmware like web server, TCP stack, temprature sensor
control, BRE engine, etc.

To change the PLC board into BRE, you will need to send board to us for re-programming. PLC firmware
has much complex web pages with many active Java code. That is totally different from BRE firmware.

Please try FTP to your BRE board only. Let us know if that working for you. Thanks!

Hi Paul, where did you find that tool ? And which one did you download since there are so many sw packages ?

kind regards Karl

PS: Do you know what type of PIC they use on the web control ?

I'm ready to order a webcontrol board. Knowing there are firmware differences in between BRE and PLC versions..

I have no idea about PLC.. but PLC versions are constantly updated.. In other hand BRE seems to be not updated since 2010...as far as I remember.

Can someone explain to me briefly wich are the differences between those two?

The BRE (Boolean Run Engine) was a first attempt at event driven logic by CAI, don't bother with it - if you could even still find it. It's rule set was extremely basic and a little buggy at times. Just get the PLC version, it's solid.

Txs Terry. Now I'm ready to order the PLC version... from amazon.
Once again. Txs for the advice!!

Which Amazon link do you use to buy the PLC version? Didn't realize they sold via Amazon.
