Anyone create videos to stream on a site?

I have some large .avi videos (hundreds of megs) for my kids school, trying to figure out how to convert them into a streaming format for as little $$ as possible. I'll be doing this regularly, so I need to software myself. I also need to learn how to make joomla serve this up.

I tried FormatFactory, but the recode results in an off-sync video/audio. Adobe Premiere Elements doesn't do this, you need the fullblown Premiere package.

Anyone ever tried to do this, or know anything about it?

Adobe Flash comes with a converter which can convert most common formats to .flv , which can be played with many flash players. The "AllVideos Reloaded" joomla extension makes it easy to serve/integrate these video files using the article editor. VLC can convert to .flv as well, but it doesn't support the On2 codec, which offers better compression/quality.

Make sure you use the 'reloaded' version, the original is old and no longer updated AFAIK.

unfortunately my site is still on J1.0, so I can't use the reloaded version. I'm upgrading the site to 1.5 sometime this summer, so many cool things I can't use as they're 1.5 Native.
