/archive/j/site/logos/cedia.jpg/archive/j/site/logos/hdbaset.pngHDBaseT is a new technology which provides power (up to 100W), audio, full uncompressed video, control and IP connectivity using a single Cat5e/6 drop, over a distance of up to 100m (328ft), and supporting up to 8 100m hops. It looks very promising, and you didn't have to look hard in order to find references to HDBaseT during the CEDIA EXPO 2011.
The HDBaseT Alliance was founded by LG, Samsung, Sony and Valens Semiconductor in June of 2010, so things have been moving pretty fast. With several products already supporting HDBaseT, it's poised to become a major player in the home theater industry. They also JUST released the Power Over HDBaseT (HDBT) specification.
Instead of boring you with tech talk, the HDBaseT Alliance had their own booth, and they were kind enough to show how it all works. The video shows several HDBaseT components, such as a project, switcher, and also a prototype Samsung LED LCD, powered via just a Cat5e cable. Very impressive demonstration. See below for more pictures and the video, which is available in 720p.
