2013 is shaping up to be a pretty interesting year for the home automation industry.

While many of us have been doing this for a long time, all these new product launches will open up the home automation market to many new potential customers.

Here's a quick overview of some of the more interesting/popular campaigns on KickStarter & IndieGoGo.

Hopefully this post will be useful to some, especially since the KickStarter search engine is one of the worst search engines I have seen in a very long time (maybe they can KickStart an effort to create a better one).

I'm going to start my own KS business. Seems like a good way to draw a $250,000 a year salary until you bleed the KS funds dry from all the saps who donate money.

Not surprised, in theory, Ube should be able to integrate with anything IP based.

As for KS, if you come up with something that people want, then yes, you will get a lot of attention.  Plenty of people try to scam Kickstarter/IndieGoGo fans, but go look at their results, the campaign dies pretty quick, plus your name will be associated with a scam forever, thanks to search engines caching.

The newest thing now seems to be buying products from China, something most people aren't familiar with, then claim it as your own.  In the end, most get busted tho.

The lady in the first pic for the Commbadge looks like she's overwhelmed with excitement.  :)

Ube looks awesome, and while I want to fund them, I'm not gonna invest in any lighting products until they actually integrate with my other stuff.

Prizm doesn't seem to have their stuff together as well as the Almond+ project, and it's double the price.  I'd love to see it succeed, but their kickstarter is missing a lot of info compared to the Almond one.
