I monitor my water heater also, using a 220VAC relay. May I suggest you add rules to look for the water heater not turning on often enough (circuit breaker trip, bad thermostat) or staying on too long (bad thermostat, broken hot water pipe). It will take some trial and error, based upon your family & needs, but I think mine notifies me if the WH doesn't turn on for 10 hours or stays on for 50 minutes.
Good ideas. I especially like the idea of telling us when the water heater is on for X minutes. If I set a rule for anything > 30 minutes, and have Homeseer speak "The hot water heater has been ON for X minutes", that will help us identify what activities use the most hot water. This will help us achieve our goal of conserving hot water.
Maybe I should put speakers in the shower and have Homeseer shout "You've been in there long enough"!
