Awesome alternative to IR distribution

It sounds like it picks up the IR carrier frequency. (Detailed description, line 60) This is when the most power is getting swung around, so will create the most RF. (Edges==RF radiation) It would be trivial to design a remote that would not work with this device, but it would cost more so it's unlikely anyone would ever bother. ;-) I don't think you will find a 555 in a modern remote though- they are very highly integrated in order to hit the required price points.

Do you have pics of the battery casing / RF module removal? I use IR only Harmony remotes and this would be a nice mod for them.

No but you just use something like a small screwdriver to push it out through the hole in the top of the casing. Once you get it out through the bottom you remove the board from the plastic housing.
