Elk: Reading Thermostat Values in Rules

Is there any way to have the ELK M1Gold read the current temperature from a thermostat using a rule, so that a text can display it on a keypad? I thought I saw this somewhere, but I cannot locate it.

I know I can load a counter with a temperature sensor value, but (AFAICS) not a thermostat value.

I know that there's an RS232 protocol to read thermostat values and settings out through a serial port, but I don't want to dedicate a computer simply to read out the thermstat value and then write it back to a counter -- I may as well install a full-blown computerized HA system.

Fifty seven views, no responses; nothing from Elk either. I guess it's not obvious, and probably not do-able (yet).

I'm glad that I bought the temperature sensors after all.

Elk Support (Spanky?): Can you add this capability of reading thermostat current temperatures to your wish-list of features to add to the rules language?

Thanks.
