Free 2D CAD Software

Not sure if this should be posted in the Software forum or here in Hot Deals ... free software ... you decide.

Siemens offers the 2D version of its 3D Solid Edge product for free. If you need to create proper engineering drawings (mechanical, electrical, etc) but don't want to spend a dime then this one is for you.

Many years ago, I used the "big name" in drafting programs and Solid Edge 2D is a worthy competitor. It offers associative dimensioning and parametric modelling. What the heck is that? Well, draw a rectangle and add the dimension to the rectangle's height (an easy, almost one-click operation). Increase the value of the dimension and the rectangle's height automatically increases in size. Neat, but there's more. You can set a relationship between the rectangle's height and width. Change the width and the height will change accordingly. Very neat. You can also read/write files created by "Another CAD" program.

You need to register with Siemens and the download is big (~235 Mb) but it is all the 2D CAD you will need ... and for free.
