Off that they give away the 3000 OR the 5000. With the 5000 being the more capable unit i would think they wont be giving away many 3000's.

For a descent size installation you can easilly go through a bunc of label tapes so this is indeed a very good deal. If somebody get's it i need a 2 or 3 label tapes so you can sell those of to me and make the deal even better.

I know they are supposed to last a long time once printed/but how long can they sit before printing?

I have some labels that have sat for a LONG time (a few years) that work fine when I need them. I have a couple of colors that I do not use often.

The heat shrink are nice, but very expensive. I use the flexible nylon tape. With the 5000, you can print a "wrap" pattern, which prints your text sideways, multiple times across the tape. So when you wrap it around the cable, you can read the text from any direction.

For example, if you imagine an invisable vertical tape behind the text below, the wrap would print like this:

MBR Cable


So when that gets wrapped around the cable, you will see MBR Cable 3 or 4 times around the cable. I hope that makes sense.

I'm not sure if it works on the 3000, but I know it does on the 5000. I usually get 3/4" tape for the wraps. I know that the 3000 will not do 3/4" tape, so I would stick with the 5000. It's a bit bigger, but I like it a lot better.

I thought I would bump this topic since the deal is about to end, and I also thought I would ask a couple of quick questions.

First, how many feet of tape have people actually wound up using for their home wiring? In order to get the deal it looks like you need to purchase 120 to 180 feet of tape (depending upon which type you buy), and it looks like the labelers themselves come with 1 to 3 tapes. At this point I haven't figured out exactly how many total wires I need to run, so any ballpark estimates would be great. Also, do the regular Nylon and Poly labels work well for home wiring (network, security, audio), or is the flex Nylon really the one to use?

bummed that I missed this
