How to activate M1 Announcements?

Hello, I am new to the forum. Last year ELK M1 Gold was installed in my house. It works fine for security and fire alarm monitoring. However, it does not do any announcements. I did not know about that until I read on their website a couple of days ago. Do I need to purchase an add on for that? or is it just a configuration? I tried to look at the manual but could not figure out. Any help would be appreciated.

The voice announcements are set in the Globals section, Voice tab (G19-G25) in ElkRP. Or you can set them enable/disable them keypad... IMHO they can get a little tiresome, I have most of mine disabled. It does not require an addon, it is built into the M1G.

That tab turns on/off sections, if you want to turn off a particular announcement you will need to go into Automation...Voice and set the line to {blank}...

Do you have a speaker installed? Voice won't come out of a keypad......

And are you positive it's an M1 Gold and not EZ8? EZ8 doesn't do voice.

I agree. When I first installed the M1G four years ago, it was cool having it do all the announcements. It quickly becomes old. Other than alarm conditions, the only announcements it does now is when the doorbell is pressed or either of the pool cage doors are opened.

yes it is M1sysGOLD system and Yes we do have a speaker. I also agree that we don't want them for everything especially the motion sensors in the house. That would drive us crazy. But all main entry points in the house would be good to have like garage door, outside access basement door, main house entry door, side entry door and pool door are the ones we want to have announcements. I did not know that you could somehow attach it to the door bell as well. That would be cool. Can someone point me to how to do that?

I will try the options you have mentioned above in the automation. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Bon Bon,

There's a definite cool factor to the announcements, but it gets old fast, and for many, the WAF is much lower than our's. Like I said above, I just have the two pool doors announce. I finally got my Liftmaster Smart Control Panel to work with the Elk without wiping the time display, so I may be adding an announcement for that. All the other doors are locked all the time, or we are going in or out, like the lanai door, that the announcements would be an annoyance. YMMV.

For the doorbell, you can use the ELK-930DoorbellandTelephoneRingDetector .
