Ideas to block "Unavailable" calls?

Lately I have been getting more and more of these calls that show "Unavailable" on the Caller ID. I am looking for ways to use HA or other means to stop them. Any ideas?

Why don't you gut a phone, set up the hook switch to a relay on the normally closed connections, then wire an appliancelinc to a dc adapter to the coil? Then you could use Girder to turn the appliancelinc on and off when there's an unknown caller, thereby hanging up on them automatically.

Since I have a modem for CID, if a call comes in that meets certain criteria, I just answer (ATA) and hangup (ATH). :)

Check whether your telephone service provider has call blocking options. This way, your phone never rings in the first place.

My provider (Cablevision) has an "Anonymous Call Blocking" option that "blocks all calls to you where the calling party does not display their name and number. The caller will receive a message to display their Caller ID if they wish their call to go through. To unblock Caller ID, the caller must dial *82 before placing a call."

My PBX system sends unknown DID originations to "IVR Hell"; an especially diabolical series of menu options from which there is no return. My phones never ring.

The PBX I use is free (PBX in a flash), is VoIP based and works off my Vonage softphone account. It isn't as hard to set up as one might think either.

Well my provider will let me block anonymous calls but since Unavailable is no CID info they won't block those. Have you noticed more and more political calls, ect are coming in Unavailable?

Yeah I have considered doing the automatic phone hook hangup method. They used to sell a small device that automatically played the SIT tone out to make autodialers think your phone was disconnected. Can't seem to locate that anymore.

There not all using autodialers, I get alot from local cell phones...

I use TonyNo's CID script it works great, just have to get a base set of numbers to disconnect...

Well I am using the NetcallerID box so I doubt it will hang up the phone for me. I will have to look at other options.

Many of the ones I get that are Unavailable are automated calls. In fact we got one from some Union rep last night at 11:30pm that was endorsing whats his name.

John, I use and have the SIT tone file. Ping me on irc next time.

I apolagize for being off topic.....

Tony,
I use your CID plugin in PowerHome, but how do you then use the SIT tones? I thought i was using the latest CID plugin?

:D LOL! :D

Sorry, couldn't resist...

You'll have the phone number and date/time logged, so, you can look up the number. If you make a connection to a company, you can take a day off and go to small-claims court to make $1500. :D
