Insteon and Z-wave

Sure, you "can" have any number of technologies installed at the same time.  I've got Lutron RA2, z-wave and zigbee (hue, etc) running all at once.

Now, where it gets tricky is controlling them all at the same time.  Few automation tools are geared to support combinations of technologies, especially when it comes to overlapping solutions for lighting.  I say few, but not none.  Commercial products like CQC and Homeseer offer varying degrees of functionality that can span over different technologies.  Those are not the only offerings, just two that come to mind for the question asked.

Let's back up and ask, what is it you're hoping to accomplish and what's led you to consider a solution using both?

I use insteon and zwave together, no problems. I use the ISY-994 controller. It handles both, but zwave support continues to mature.

I'm also doing zwave and Insteon with ISY-994, it's the best thing out there that does both. ISY is also fully integrated with Amazon Echo and Alexa.

Same here ISY with Zwave (locks only) and Insteon lights, etc.   My zwave setup only seems to work to about 20' between devices so I bought a half dozen aeotec repeaters to get full communication.  I have an external antenna for my ISY for the zwave and extended it to outside my leviton enclosure with a 5' cable.  One caveat with the ISY setup is that it can still only do one thing at a time.  So if it is busy with one protocol, other stuff will queue up.   For example, I have a rule to lock all doors when the alarm is set, and shut some lights off.   The lights can lag for a couple of minutes, while it goes through all the locks.
