Guys, I really need all contribution on this. I'm in the process of building my media closet. I want every room to have access to all the gadgets in the media closet. So I ran cat5E cable from each room to the closet where my URC MSC-400 console is located. In each room I installed one of this: http://cgi.ebay.com/In-Wall-IR-Receiver-Ta...d#ht_2765wt_932
Then I connected all the other end of the cat5E to a connection block, then connect the block to the MSC-400. The MSC-400 is capable of communication through RS232. So I connect it to my computer. Now my biggest challenge is, how can I control each devices in each room from any where in the house. For example, my wife forgot to turn off the TV in the master bedroom and we are all down in the basement. I don't feel like going all the way upstairs to go turn off the TV. I want to be able to grab my MX3000 remote and click on master bedroom, then TV, then power off. I hope there is someone out there that understand my intentions. Please Help before I throw up my drywalls. Thanks

not quite sure what the issue is as you seem to have a handle on it....I assume the mx3000 is programmed with the individual devices ir codes...so the TV in the master bedroom is unique IR on the IR network, or you have zoned your IR network. I also assume you will have more than one mx3000 so you don't leave the master mx3000 in the bedroom and don't have one at hand in the basement.

Will you also have devices that support more than ir like RS232? Have you provisioned for that in your wiring? Are you putting just the "TVs" in each room and the multiple content sources (DVR, cable box, sat boxes, DVD players etc) are centrally located?

I think the issue is he has receivers in all rooms but in order to turn off a component you need an emitter there so use one of the unconnected pairs of wires in the cat5 to connect an emitter back to the msc-400.
