M1G or E27 for DIY in 2026?

Finally hope to get my discontinued UltraSync replaced this year. (I have a pair of COSMOD2W chains.) Would rather not pick another dying platform.

The traffic in this forum seems to have fallen off with no recent mention of the E27. I thought I saw somewhere that the M1EXP (ethernet) was being discontinued for the M1G. The E27 sounds good until the crap about the cloud access subscription and required dealer activation (yes, I saw it can be used locally without subscription). Yet E27 seems to be the future.

What is the current advice for a new (DIY) installation?

I’m still liking what I see in the Bosch B Series. Have the automation integration protocol document.

The last time I looked at the E27, it seemed to be a step backward in functionality compared to the M1G. Newer is not always better. That said, I guess it depends on what you want your alarm system to do for you.

I did not update to an E27 because 1) I hate cloud-dependent stuff, 2) I saw no real benefit to an E27 over an M1G, and 3) I would not be able to do some of the things I do today. My M1G is a large part of my home automation system, and I believe the E27 could not do everything the M1G can do.

Regarding dying platforms - that is always my main concern. Company consolidations and dealer lock-downs have resulted in fewer and fewer DIY choices. But even worse, it seems like most manufacturers are trending toward proprietary hardware, cloud-based features, and paid subscriptions. That is killing system inter-operability and independence.
