M1G/XRF: issue enrolling a NX-454

I have enrolled 7 NX-454 without any issue just entering their DL# into ElrRP. Then there's that one which didn't work. I entered the DL# and get nothing. I hear the reed switch go click, I see the rounds on the LEDs of the XRF, but the Elk doesn't recognize it.

So I thought the DL# is incorrect and tried the keypad enrollment method. Apparently, on the NX-454, the tamper triggering for enrollment consists in pulling the battery half-way (that's not what the XRF doc says - that one talks about twisting the cap, which seems bogus, that's what the doc inside the box of the switch says). If I do that, I get a "enrollment not allowed" from the keypad. So it gets the rounds, but for some reason refuses it.

Any idea how to figure out how to enroll this one? It seems that there should be a way to get the DL# of any switch that triggers, but I couldn't find it.

BTW, what's the number on the rightmost column of the list of supported devices in the XRF install manual?

... that one talks about twisting the cap...

Do you mean the 650? I don't remember, but I seem to recall that I just held the 454 in my hand while I keypad enrolled it; and at the appropriate time, I violated it (hush) by separating the sensor from the magnet...

I tried just separation, but, despite making LEDs blink on the XRF, it didn't do anything. The enrollment process according to the XRF doc involves triggering something else than the reed switch (usually a tamper switch).

If you are getting the "Enrollment Not Allowed" message, then the transmitter is already enrolled in the M1. Check the list of transmitter ID code under the Wireless Setup. I have seen the wrong ID code on the boxes before, so you could have enrolled it with the keypad and was locked out from duplicate enrolling it again.

Can it be enrolled", but not enabled? How do I know if it's enrolled if it doesn't show up in RP and how do I unenroll it?

Make sure you have received all the wireless setup into ELKRP and check for the ID code.

From the keypad in installer menu 14 option 3, you should be able to see the transmitter ID also.

If all else fails, go to Global menu 45 and select the Wireless default option and default the wireless transmitters. Then send the wireless transmitters back to the M1 from ELKRP

The mystery thickens (but there's progress).

I reset the wireless setup using G45 on the keypad. Then, I still wasn't able to use it by entering the DL# in RP and have it trigger properly. However, resetting again, I was able to enroll on the keypad and it worked just fine. Both of these are repeatable (i.e. never works on RP, always works on the keypad).

The freaky thing that happens is that once the enrollment is tried in RP once, even if the wireless setup for that zone is erased, the wireless Rx seems to remember and disallow keypad enrollment of the Tx. That's the "enrollment not allowed" message I got. Usually it says "Enrollment not allowed, enrolled at _silence_". Sometimes the silence is replaced by the zone voice chime name where I first used the DL# from RP.

The number as shown on the keypad is the DL# reversed, so I assume the DL# is correct. The weirdest thing is that I can't seem to "receive" into RP the keypad-enrolled zone. Even names and options don't get received. So even if I can enroll on the keypad, I can't really use it because I have to "send all" after the wireless reset on G45. So I can either have my one keypad-enrolled zone or all the other RP-enrolled zones.

BTW, I used an XRF @ address 4 and wireless zones starting at 049.

Any idea?

Hummm! (scratching my head)

The transmitter should also have a TX number which is basically the reverse of the DL number. TX being Caddx and DL being ITI.

Use keypad menu 14, suboption 2 and disable the wireless zone. Move it to another zone to see if it makes any difference.

Within the next two weeks, ELK will be releasing new M1XRF2G RF receiver software upgrade which enhances and speeds up the data decode.
