my GMail account was hacked

My gmail account was hacked this morning. It looks like the work of a spam bot to me. They copied my entire contact list and mass e-mailed everyone on it from my account. I'm extreemly sorry if you are one of the people who got one of these e-mails. I caught the outgoing mail shortly after it went out and quickly changed my PW and security information to something much stronger. This should not happen again but if it does I will delete the account and get a new one.

I wish GMail had a way to look at who was logging into the account. They should keep a log of the log ins so we can compare the IP address we are on to the IP addresses in the log to ensure nobody is logging into the account. You would think something like that would be easy to implement.

Squintz,

It looks like this has happened to many other Gmail users as well. I am not sure yet if this was the result of a trojan/phishing attempt, but there are some threads out there discussing this problem. Good luck!

i haven't seen it in my account yet, but they take a little while to roll out new features to everyone

Nice, thanks for sharing this. I actually did put a suggestion in to them about this. I'm sure other did as well. I can't wait to see it on my account.

SimpleHomeNet has blocked all gmail access; as there was a high rate of spam bing posted.

They should implement some sort of verification process for signing up to their e-mail accounts. One way I have been verified by a website before was when signing up for my web server. They called me via and automated phone call and asked me to push a few buttons. It took literally seconds to do. It would not stop spam from gmail but it would slow it down. It would allow people of all ages to be verified as a humans and not computers. It would not stop e-mail addresses from being spoofed either.

Another idea might be to try and capture outgoing mail that appears to be spam instead of making recipients filter out the junk.

I love the GMAIL interface and I love their web apps. I'm not sure what I would do with out them. But their security needs to be improved big time.
