Nevo Q50 for my HT

I have been recommended to get a Nevo Q50 for my HT set-up. (Onkyo AV Receiver and DVD, PVR, Onkyo iPod Dock, Pioneer Kuro Plasma). My aim is to have a remote that this scalable so that when I buy new equipment, or wish to link in other functions (e.g. blinds) i can do so.

So I have a few questions ...

• How easy are these to program?
• Should I go down this path, or are there other options that I should consider that would provide the same flexibility?
• Are there libraries of icons available to use when programming?

Sorry about the number of questions, but to me this seems like an expensive purchase and I want o make sure it makes sense.

1. Compared to other options, they are a bit more difficult. Considerably more so than say, a Harmony. Of course, they work a whole lot better than a Harmony.

Nevo is by UEI who has, by far and away, the best IR library in the biz (so much so that many, many, many other companies buy their library) but all the real players in remotes have their own hex editor so you can import or modify your own codes. Nevo also happens to be a bunch of hyper arrogant a-holes who will claim that anything less than their gear is worthless...Is it good gear? Yes. Would I support 'em? No.

Thanks for the response (no holds barred). I suppose the biggest issue going forward for me will be the wife factor. AT the moment she has several remotes to navigate and I want to make it really simple and reliable.

I hear what you say about the guys that make the Q50, but I suppose this needs to be weighed against its reliability compared to other manufacturers products and ease of access to the libraries.

Any tips regarding how it should be laid out also?

For what it's worth, I have a Harmony One and have no problems with it - if you want something cheap and simple it would be hard to beat.

You might want to check out this sale thread as he has a Phillips ProntoNEO touch screen remote on sale for $25 with the serial plug for programming. It looks very similar to the Nevo, but it does have fewer hard buttons (hard buttons are nice).

Just a thought. This could give you something to experiment with for a fraction of the cost of something new.

I like the look of the Pronto, but I do tend to like the hard button options on the Nevo.
$25 is an absolute bargain compared to how much I need to fork out for the Nevo though.
