New 700-series Zwave unveiled at CES2018

Does look interesting. Seems like mostly marketing though. I wonder how long before devices start to come out and how backwards compatible they will really be.

I think Sigma is anticipating major growth in the IOT market in the next 5 to 10 years.  Thus, the design of a new chip with a 10 year battery life  and a 300 foot range to take advantage of this emerging opportunity.  IMHO, they're primarily targeting  the commercial/industrial market and secondarily the residential market.

IOT market survey info from the Dec 2017 Circuit Cellar magazine...
According to market research firm Vision Mobile, there are up to 6 million developers worldwidebuilding Internet-of-Things (IoT) related projects these days. That up from only four million a couple years ago, and the number is expected to approach 10 million in the next few years. IoT is the fastest growing segment of software developers.

IOT surveys from other research companies such as Forester pretty much echo the sentiments of Vision Mobile. IMHO, Sigma sees a major opportunity in the IOT market and they're going after it with the new series 700.
