Placement of Structured Panel...

Initially (BEFORE I decided that I needed to go Automated) I had envisioned a Structured wiring Panel in my Garage that all of my Cat5e and RG6 cables would be split out of. Now, with the addition of going with an Automated system, I am wondering if my System shouldn't be more centrally located in the house somewhere, or, if it being in the garage still is okay.

What factors do I need to consider with Panel Placement? I know I have to consider RS232 distance (No more than 50 feet from the panel, is it?) but what else is there? I'm sure I can put it In the Center "Closet" to make it more central, but what other distance factors are there?

I wouldn't worry too much about distances. I would put it where most convenient. You can always get baluns, extenders, etc when needed if you have long runs. But I would put it in a climate controlled and cleaner area. I usually like to avoid attics and garages and stick with interior closets.

Now the second question (and Obligatory First "Should have asked the question BEFORE I ran the lines" situation.. lol)

Is it possible to Still Keep the RFU Switchers and Ethernet Routers where they are in the garage, and Run a single line back across the house to where the Panel Will theoretically go? Or will I be better served just to run 4 brand new lines (Since 3 will still go where I would need them)
