Power off of m1g input expander

Continuing my m1g install on my new house and I have a few questions.

First when I was wiring my keypad for my data hub it called out the Cat wiring as brown/white and white/brown for example and I have never seen Cat wire called out like that. White/brown and brown yes but I wanted to make sure I had it right where brown/white is usually just brown in most cases. Also the wiring for the extra zone and the LED thing that where optional do not need to be wired up at all right? I just left them loose. Still waiting on my dbh so I want to be sure before I fry something.

Also I have a 16 zone input expander that I will be wiring up my upstairs zones to and I am wondering if there are any tricks to get the powered sensors working. It looks like I can tap into the dbh for the juice but all of those zones on two connectors seems kinda sketchy. Is this ok to do? Should I get a separate power setup?

I have input/output expanders in two remote locations. Both sets are in their own enclosure with power supply and battery. I did add a relay to each setup, the relay is activated by the power coming from the main unit and controls power from the local power supply to the local loads. The point of all this was so when I shut off power in the main unit, power is shutoff in the remote enclosures.

Hey guys,

I've setup a 912B relay to be turned on by my HAI panel via an output whenever the system is armed away. This in turn allows power to my interior cameras. Are there any issues with the relay being on for extended periods of time? There is potential for the relay to be turned on for days at a time. I just don't want any sort of failure/fire due to the relay being energized for extended periods.

Thanks

CB

Good idea, I was thinking about that too, but was a little worried about the relay being powered on constantly. Forever is a long time. There's another post http://www.cocoontech.com/forums/index.php...c=15245&hl=, but his answers seem to say its Ok.

IMHO, if all you have is a regular mix of devices on that expander, and it does not sound like a long wire run, you shouldn't have a power issue.

I am looking at the M1XIN zone expander and it has what appears to be two additional powered data bus pinouts on the board labeled as J2 and J3. Are those available for power as well? The document that came with it does not specify their use. I could crimp all of the powered zones to this though which might be a clean way to do it.

"brown/white" means solid brown.
"white/brown" means what it says.

I don't know why they did that.

brown/white means a brown background color with a small white stripe.
white/brown means a white background color with a small brown stripe.

My 2 cents -

If I had a remote expander I would do it like Frederick did.
I never worry about constantly powered relays - I worry more about the amount of current on the contacts and arcing on close / open which pit them after time.

brown/white and white/brown is the same manner of referring to any of the other colors. First word = wire color, second is the "stripe" color. All brands of wire will look a bit different in the manner of marking - but the jist is the same.
