Howdy:
Frankly, I'm just a little terrified about this post - I'm normally on AVS but a serious "Cocooner" suggested I post this here to expand the eyes on it.
Long story short, I'm a CI turned equipment mfr. who gets bombarded daily with questions on pre-wiring a new home. There are some great guides out there including the Cocoontech prewire 101 guide, but folks new to the "art" need a lot more information. I set out a couple months ago to write a ground up book on planning a LV system and taking the user through all the details of pre-wire and installation. (All with carefully given instructions to consult professionals for parts of it)
I'm looking for folks to provide constructive criticism on this work in progress. (Yeah - that's the statement that scares me just a little). Honestly trying to provide a good resource here. It is, and always will be free. My employer has let me spend significant "work hours" on it in exchange for throwing in a "between chapter" ad here and there, but I figured that was a good tradeoff to get the material done.
Chapters 1-6 are complete and cover initial planning, absolute minimum wiring, futureproofing with conduit, coordinating with the electrician, and the actual pull. I'm in the middle of doing a chapter on whole-home audio (hoping to publish next week).
I've received a lot of "grateful", "thanks", "very useful" etc kinds of replies but very little critical input. Would appreciate that and suggestions.
Grab it at your convenience from www.bocsco.com/prewire.
Thanks in advance, and uh - be gentle.
