I am finding a lot of small wires that say DM

like great room dm
garage dm
bedroom dm

Compiled with things like mud room kp

I assume KP means controll panel
PIR means motion sensor..

So does DM mean dimmer. Could it be they wired the main switches to have common wires for dimmer, etc

can you put a resistence meter on one of the dm's and observe while you open/close the doors/windows to see if anything happens?

Also look in your windows and exterior doors to see if there are actually sensors there...they shoudl be either very obvious or they are recessed and you'll see some round things in the window or door frame.

What kind of cable is labelled DM? Where is it located, within each room?
4 conductor (4 wires within 1 cable) could be Distributed Music (though I'd call that distributed audio myself)

KP is keypad, for sure

DM could also be something-motion

I googled DM + label + cable and found a Crestron product called DigitalMedia CAT Transmitter (DM-TX-100), used for distributed HDMI. Spec sheet says 'use DM-CBL Digital Media Cable or cat5e/6 cable'. Was it a Crestron installer?

lol at signal, I am going to check. I want to say 4.

Yes, we have door magnets installed in 2 of the exterior doors, but I do not know why there are Bedroom DM's

On my way downstairs now.

My guess, given 4-wires, is
  • detector/motion
as opposed to
  • detector/glassbreak,
  • detector/smoke,
  • detector/co (carbon monoxide), and
  • detector/occupancy.

A way to avoid guessing is to use a continuity tester or a toner to figure out where the other end is and see what's there.
